As a consumer, I want targeting features default-on, but I also don't mind too much having to turn them on manually.

Why wouldn't sites that rely on FLoC block Safari if the browser doesn't implement it?

AFAIK, companies "having courage" has been a meme for a few years after Apple said it took great courage (or similar) to remove the headphone jack.

Yeah, moving to AWS would save me ~50% in monthly costs (around 5k/mo) and I have friends constantly offering to do the grunt work to move over for free, but when you factor in the price of a devops guy (IMO needed on AWS but not neede

In either case, it seems like they would have notified users (if at all) when they were alerted to the leak and fixed the vulnerability.. not 2-3 years later.

OT: Failed their hCaptcha probably 10-15 times before I gave up and just closed the tab. Hadn't seen it in the wild yet; I'm glad it's not pervasive (yet).

Two thoughts (I didn't vote because home == office for me): 1) The list of companies is pretty odd. It has Apple but no Facebook, Google, Netflix, etc. Is there actually a large population of HN that works at e.g. all these financial i

If you read the article, there's an option in the settings to not have this option "forced" on you. Even when it's "forced", it's only defaulting to more carbon-positive routes when the ETAs are comparable

It looks like part of the carbon footprint model is based on road inclines and traffic congestion. For example, a super-fast route that's up an extremely-steep incline on the way may technically be faster from point A to B, but would b

Honestly, having dislike buttons always seemed _extremely_ user-hostile to me. You can get a lot of the same signals a "dislike" gives by just looking at the likes-to-views ratio, without introducing a method of negative feedback

It's the only site I have problems with, tbh. Stylesheet says it's supposed to be 10pt (with comment text dropping down to 9pt), which is even smaller than the too-small 12pt font that gets recommended a lot.
