Ah LAN parties, AoE, BfME 2, C&C ... good days. The LAN setup times, not so much but we had it down to a spritely 1.5 hours ;)

Having lived in both NZ and Singapore I can second these comments. Although the 'a business cannot rent out a home' bit would probably not work in practice. There's definitely an ongoing need for commercial landlords, althoug

So, not disclosure from a security ops / policy perspective, but it is 'disclosure' this the equivalent of a 'here be dragons' comment on a map ... an endorsement for the 'curious'

4 days from reporting to public posting is not a responsible disclosure policy. Even if they are slow in responding, the usual grace period is about 4 weeks if I recall.

The Cuckoo's egg is certainly a candidate for a reboot - a factual one, not with Hollywood 'based on a true story BS'. There's enough material for a decent Netflix movie I would have thought.

+1 to this … I’m so over endless discussions individual philosophical and aesthetic preferences in o/s and window managers. As long as I can be productive and not have to ‘fix’ things constantly

TL;DR Use cloud based development environments to avoid machine (developer) specific, non reproducible problems, and increase productivity (speculatively) Probably ok for certain needs, but not something I would use. My productivity comes f

I personally enjoyed coding very much 30 years ago - first professional gig doing C (moving on from Basic / Turbo Pascal). The good: Fun projects to work on, and no cargo cult programming BS. Lots and lots to learn, programming books

Yes, there are numerous micro benchmarks that demonstrate this. Python has improved in speed, but outside specific uses cases where a C based library performs the bulk of the computational lift, it certainly lags behind. This despite some m

I think it depends on the size and makeup of the development team. Smaller startups / teams need a CTO with strong coding and especially architecture skills. Larger orgs probably benefit from a CTO that has a strong product background

My 2 cents ... If I know the individual inviting me then a polite 'thank you for the offer / thinking of me, but I must decline.' no more is needed. If you do not know them, i.e a blind invite, then ignoring is more than a re

Interesting, this case does indeed look to be a new variant - something in between the original 64 and the 64c. I would say (without knowing for sure) that the original was surely released in Australia as well. The original C 64 was definit

A slight variation I prefer, and strongly advocate is ‘own (or control) what makes you successful’. It may not be unique, and doesn’t imply always building it yourself, but you should be in control of those things.

I have to say, any tech organization that has its engineers only coding 20% of the time is doing it wrong. Yes there's much more to software development than pure coding, but 20% would suggest serious organizational structure and proce
