I believe my company has purchased somewhere around $100k+ from Newegg by this point. I would suggest not always buying on price and look at what the company is offering... and one of those things has been always eggcellent (ha-ha) customer

Joy. This is going to be a big issue if the major distributions don't have a fixed kernel out in the next day or so (and then lazy admins don't remember to install it). I would guess anyone with an active php shell they haven't discovered b

I disagree here. While it is a testing component, part of any valid test is that it be replicable. If you are running down to 'Home Depot' and picking up some random screws with who knows what specifications, how exactly are you going to re

Already being worked on really. It's more blob-storage oriented, but take a look at Openstack Swift if you haven't before or Ceph. Lots of other projects out there. If you don't specifically mean block-storage type software and more open re

Well, but the article was actually speaking out against Boxen a bit. Essentially, you're still shoehorning all of the dev stuff onto your local machine with Boxen. It's much better than installing it all manually, but still not a separate d

I would say that you probably shouldn't be doing VPN to your development boxes in general. I'd see this as a security risk. I generally don't let anything 'production' touch directly anything which might not have the same security standards

I fully agree with this. 'Before', the dev team used a mix of, well, I'd rather not say. It was just not very pretty and eventually everyone got their work done. A while back I built a vagrant+puppet configuration for everyone and the team

There is a bunch of holes in CF like this. Look at their bug/security fix list for Coldfusion (Pretty much any version), and half of the security fixes are targeted to CFIDE based vulnerabilities. Any CF admin worth their salt disallows acc

I'm still looking for a good replacement Windows app. I currently use FeedDemon, which uses Google. I haven't heard/seen anything about similar applications that use any of these new services out there.

Sure, I'll take a look at it. Might be able to send you guys some rpm instructions as well. We are a RH/CentOS shop. Edit: Looking over your build files. I think I'm going to go ahead and create (or modify existing) spec files and throw tog

Always cool to see different DFS options out there. That said, I personally won't find this very useful. It does not appear to have any POSIX support and thus only would work as a API/library accessible storage share. Hadoop at least has wa

Okay, thanks. I didn't quite understand from what I read on the site though... is the API accessible to TCP connections? Basically, can I spin up instances via Cloudify or similar through a Openstack v2 compatible interface, etc?

So, how far exactly is the API compatible with Openstack? That's the one thing that would be really necessary to match. Basically, can I take tools and utilities that work with Openstack/keystone and have them working without any/much work?

Wasn't pushing the power user part to say 'Oh ho ho, I'm qualified to talk here'. I was simply adding it as a caveat that I'm not a 'normal' consumer of these kinds of things. Given that you have installed it you then saw how much it differ

How about this... try installing it and then come back and we'll have a discussion about it. I'm a 'power user' by far, far far, but I am pretty good about picking up on barriers to even normal users. They went too far with their 'integrati

This is pretty separate from a UI redesign. This is a new application and then an integration with the existing Facebook app. I'd say there isn't grouching about the 'redesign' so much as 'Where the eff is my Android?'. I think perhaps ther

Oh for sure. OpenStack is going to be way cheaper in the near AND long term than AWS, if you know what your growth rate will look like. I've said it time and time again on here when 'Cloud' stuff comes up, that you MUST as a company do the

There will always be an explanation. Anything that 'pings' selinux is logged to audit.log. It might be difficult to decipher some of the rules being hit, but it's easy enough to work around them without disabling selinux wholesale. Look int

Honestly I think this isn't true at this point. It's pretty damn easy with 'audit2allow' (That's a console command) and your audit.log, to fix for just about any issues you have getting your applications working with selinux. What's better

Cloudstack as it stands currently is a bit scary to me. They moved from being fully supported by Citrix to an Apache project which may or may not be fully supported by Citrix? Given that there are few contributors to the project, unlike wit
