Candidly, Stackato is an interesting platform/fork, but I looked into your pricing before and it's not really all that reasonable. If pricing was more realistic, or there was an open-source release of your CF fork, I'd be mor

Indeed it does! I use it for less complicated fail-over situations myself, but if you start to need more complicated topologies (or something which has good interaction with IPVS/LVS) then Corosync!

There's nothing inherently good or bad about running SSH on another port. Honestly this argument is a bit silly given how easy it is to port-scan and many scripts out there will do that before actually trying anything. Essentially all

A load balancer should never be a single point of failure. You should always have multiples. Also, if the response to this is then 'but it's still a central point of failure', they haven't really removed that in this sol

Cool stuff I think though that much of this can be handled with other ways of doing things (although obviously there is never one right way of doing these kinds of things). This application kit is one way of orchestrating service/serve

Very cool. I think actually that will be more useful than just having a docker implementation for Nova as Heat will allow it to be more like a PaaS.

Thanks for mentioning Railo. The problem with CFML is that Coldfusion(tm) gives Coldfusion a bad name. Some 'legacy' apps that ran on CF were recently switched from Adobe Coldfusion to Railo and it is like night and day... way bet

Honestly HA doesn't really tell anyone anything about what would be my bigger concern... security of the platform. What kinds of IDS solution do you currently have in place for starters? Are you using a software or hardware IDS? How ar

Yeah. They came in once and tried to sell us on it. Wasn't all that interesting honestly and I believe we'll keep on using Couchbase.

Indeed you would not be able to. CloudFlare only does HTTP/HTTPS right now. Technically since Nginx can also support SMTP they should be able to do that as well but it's not implemented currently. Basically if you want to protect

Yep. Sadly true. We as an e-commerce provider would loooove to enable it as well, but we have to be able to cater to all users for the most part.

Only issue with SNI is that it has to be supported by the browser. Generally not an issue these days, but something to be aware of. Edit: Actually, I just looked... WinXP still doesn't support it with IE, so, actually it could be a big

I personally prefer Dashlane as it has a desktop interface as well. Not a big fan of only having the password manager in the browser, myself.

I think the Cyan Worlds guys might have the right idea at the right time. With the Oculus Rift coming out at some point soon in a more general fashion, it could be very good timing. I think basically this class of games could actually be pe

I fully agree on the SA stuff. Sadly more often than not it's some dev who knows enough to be really dangerous. I make a good amount of money by coming in and mopping up after those kinds of scenarios (sadly... I'd rather make les

The percona tools are mostly outside the direct mysql environment and more on the innodb or linux end of things. I'm not personally aware of any that rely on codebase changes.

$1500/month for Equinix + Bandwidth? We got quotes from them before and rack was low, but I wasn't finding super cheap bandwidth like that. Did you go with Cogent or similar?

If you have the requirements for more than a few VM's on AWS, then the pricing for physical is going to be cheaper by far, even with a three-stack of physical servers. Let's put a basic Poweredge R620 as an example. For about $10k

Indeed. You should never, ever just spin up a single physical box, put virtualization on it and go to work. Doing this is not only not engineering for failure, but is setting the company up for failure.

Well what do you mean by it will charge the reserved instance amount? Do you mean by that just the hourly reserved costs, or the up-front payment that varies based on the instance period or instance type? If the former, then I stand correct

Not sure that this would really change the analysis that much. If you were buying physical servers and installing them yourself then sure, this could very well (perhaps even will) cause slowdown. Most everyone that does bring up using physi

This indeed. A smart company will do a cost-benefit analysis, not blindly go to the cloud, or 'double-down'. There are great benefits to doing things (maybe even your entire environment) on 'The Cloud', but sometimes phy

Iptables is easy. You just need the following ports open: 3306, 4567, 4444, 4568. I can say that getting it working with selinux is a pain. I have a TE file available if someone needs to get it working which I can upload somewhere.

Essentially, no. This is perhaps the one drawback with current Galera implementation. We run about 32 slave threads per node though and it has never been a real problem for us. It WILL be a problem for you though if you have 32 of those fil
