I've had good success in the past with http://www.zoneedit.com/ It's not free but close enough to it for your purposes here.

Is there any word on if this is a DDoS type attack (I've seen things like request saturation attacks on DNS servers before)? Or, is it an actual exploit issue? Seems perhaps that it might be the latter from what I've seen so far... Anon is

I think that this is both a smart move on the part of Amazon, and also a portent of bad things to come in general. One of the ideas behind the tablet 'ecosystem' in general (at least the one spawned by Apple), is to control the vision and v

Huh, interesting. I haven't gotten to this point yet but was kind of wondering about this. Does this mean that Google does not use any sort of indexing, or is it not that great? I haven't seen any documentation about the internals of Gmail

I think this it where we get back to the CPU vs memory bound tasks. If the task allows you to be running 1/8th of a newer Intel/AMD cpu at any given time (also accounting for bursting), why not look if you can squish some instances together

Thanks for the reply. Also interesting to see dev side... we run something similar although a bit more free-form with the internal developers, but that's being pushed into a more controlled environment ;). I should also say it's a bit heart

I'd say there are other reasons behind using virtualization than simply quick system spin-up, such as easier/better integration with (Dev|Sys)Op tools, higher hardware->instance densities than you'll ever see from physical... etc. I thi

Well at least one thing to note there, is that post is from several years ago... both virtualization technologies have gotten better since then, as well as processors. I think there are certainly specific web and db loads that aren't going

I'm a big fan of Supermicro systems. They are probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck out there, although one has to purchase them with the understanding of the potential 'risk' of not having a giant support department behind them like D

It's very cool to see these kinds of posts. I always learn something from them and it's always neat to see what others have built to deal with a specific problem. I wonder in this case why, if any specific reason Etsy is not utilizing virtu

You're talking about smartOS I'm assuming? I'm not certain the comparison is apt. With smartOS you're just being given a node platform, with Openstack you have the entire management platform.

Having looked into and setup test implementations of Cloudstack, Openstack, Opennebula and a few others... I have to say I was not that impressed with the current state of Openstack. For starters the documentation left much to be desired. A

Perhaps I'll take you up on the offer. I actually am one of your hoped cases, where there's the possibility for moving to support at some point. Not the biggest fan of some Oracle decisions, but it's also difficult to justify paying for RH

How so? You guys are providing a script to switch from CentOS to OL, but I don't see a comparable script to switch back to CentOS. Where is the script to easily switch back when Oracle decides to screw everyone over as many have already bro

To be honest I don't personally think the traffic that some of the accounts running under the free/$20 plans are sustainable. I know for my part we've been running several very large sites through their service which cut our bandwidth usage

I tried to clarify in a followup comment realizing that I wasn't being clear enough. Google as a whole certainly is all 'cloud' and I can't think of any times I've seen their homepage down for instance. I was comparing their service platfor

I should note, when I say cloud track record, I don't necessarily mean stability. I'm talking as far as actually running true 'cloud' services like App Engine, pricing, etc.

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Google doesn't have the greatest track record with 'cloud'... I wouldn't put anything mission critical up there for a while. That said, the pricing is a mixed bag. It's technically more expen

And you've noted the EXACT use case for the cloud. If you are a new app, or a hot start-up and get tons of sporadic traffic, the cloud is absolutely where you need to be. To do anything else is beyond foolish. Now, what I think the original
