Chrome would auto install site specific search in its initial beta release in September 2008. The ability to set your own keywords came soon after. https://lifehacker.com/enable-chromes-best-features-in-firef...

Human vision cannot focus on an object less than 9” away without fatigue. VR headsets put lenses between your eyes and the screen to give up to several feet of effective focal distance.

Interesting, I assumed that latency and dead zones made direct drive a no-go. Plus throughput could become an issue as AVs scale. Is there actually some truth to the 5g = AV hype?

They don’t have a way to remotely drive the vehicle. They complete Mechanical Turk-like tasks, classifying images, approving the vehicle’s plan around an obstacle, etc.

They sort of are allowing users to pay to use their own client by charging for API access. It will be interesting to see how Apollo adapts to this new reality.

It seems there are three tiers of service, with only the employee tier serving most of the city 24/7. Still interesting from a regulatory and POC standpoint, but probably at least a year away from service for all.

AFAIK there are no phones on the market with open-source baseband firmware, so you have to trust one of Qualcomm, Broadcom et al with access to all cellular communication. Do you have a best of breed supplier you’ve vetted?

Right, but if the average real-world Android experience lags behind say iOS in terms of security, then the point, even if outdated, still serves to disprove the parent’s premise that AOSP is the most secure.

Hasn’t this all been long true for iOS as well? There are reasons to hate it, but a walled garden is safer in many ways (as long as you trust Apple). You mention baseband - Android hardware comes with max 3 years of baseband support, compar

I remember reading that they are in fact using n53 2.4Ghz. Remember this is a fallback for areas without cell service, and a satellite signal is much weaker on the ground than any terrestrial signal.

The Noisebridge hacker space at 272 Capp in SF could be a good venue. I'm not active in that community but they seem to be open to hosting events like this. It's close to a BART station and a parking garage. https://www

Configure a separate microphone device system wide or in app, then your headphones should stay in audio output mode. I’m hoping that Bluetooth 5.2 and BLE audio fix this issue. It’s hard to find info on how the updated headset profile works

I adjust my desk and chair so the level is just right for good posture. The 1.5" of keyboard height is necessary for the curved key wells, which make this keyboard more comfortable than any other I've tried.

Many Californians believe that the housing crisis is best solved with public housing. I suppose that this approach may be feasible if accompanied by massive disinvestment in techno-economic tasks, among other things.

The PS5 and the Xbox Series X don't support Bluetooth audio either. I would love it if it was possible but all the low latency codecs are a mess, and 250ms of desync with SBC or AAC would have you hating Bluetooth audio.
