If you think your AI “confessed,” that’s your problem right there.

I’ve been a tech guy for 45 years and I still can’t figure out USB and Thunderbolt and what goes with what and how fast it’s supposed to run.

Seems like you’re lashing out with nonsense.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. I was reacting to the word “waste” I guess. Surely, as you say, it consumes that opcode encoding space. Whether that’s a waste or not depends on a lot of other things, I suppose. I wasn’t necessarily thinking

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “waste 8 opcodes.”

Right, like a “set reg to zero” instruction. One byte. Just encodes the operation and the reg to zero. I’m surprised we didn’t have it on those old processors. Maybe the thinking was that it was already there: xor reg, reg.

Yea, that’s what immediately went through my head, too. XOR is ALWAYS going to be single cycle because it’s bit-parallel.

I didn’t say they were paying criminals. I said they were paying KKK and Nazis. I made an analogy to firemen and arsonists to make the point that they were fraudulently creating demand for their services, not to suggest that who they were p

They were paying KKK members and Nazis. The scam was roughly the same as firemen paying arsonists to justify their salaries.

Yes, I was around then. It felt exactly the same. That’s how you know it’s a bubble. Because everyone starts acting stupid and conjuring up all these ridiculous explanations for why it makes sense when it plainly doesn’t. In 1999, everythin

Transducers work even better with a Clojure library called Injest. It has macros similar to the standard Clojure threading macros except Injest’s macros will recognize when you’re using transducers and automatically compose them correctly.

Salt Lake City is a perfect grid, better than Manhattan. An address in SLC tells you EXACTLY where it is. It was GPS before GPS.

Indeed. I remember flying to Atlanta and arriving at midnight. I rented a car and had to try to find my hotel in the dark with one of those one-page maps the rental car company had. So, yea, we’ve come a long way for the better.

Cook did a great job. I was hesitant when Steve Jobs died and Cook took over. Jobs was so visionary and it wasn’t clear that a finance guy would be a good fit. He clearly learned what he needed to and he trusted those people around him in t

It’s gotten a lot better, but I still find the address database better in Google Maps, which helps when you have only a fragment of an address. I also find that the Apple Maps database has a lot of roads that read the same. For instance, in

I was at some of those IETF meetings in the mid-1990s and attended some early IPv6 working group sessions. We knew the conversion would take time, but I don’t think any of us thought it would be this slow. I was involved with multiple L3 sw
