TV frequencies have already been reallocated. Channels 52 through 69 (700 MHz band) were reallocated in 2008 and channels 38 through 51 (600 MHz band) were reallocated in 2017. The 600 MHz band is currently being cleared and will be finishe

My brother used to let me read Mad Magazine out loud to test my just learned reading skills when I was in 1st grade (circa 1963). One time, I pronounced a word as "eye-doyt". My brother knew that wasn't a word and had to look

That's correct. It would not be a complete loss. More like when 1215 to 1240 MHz and 2310 to 2390 MHz was lost after WARC-79.

The next band to be targeted is 3450 to 3550 MHz (of which, 3450 to 3500 MHz is allocated to Amateur Radio). https://www.lightreading.com/spectrum-now-act-takes-aim-at-m...

In Region 1, 138 to 144 MHz is allocated to Aeronautical Mobile. Adding 144 to 146 MHz would give an 8 MHz contiguous allocation. http://www.w6rz.net/fcctable.png

Multi processor encoding goes way back to the early days of video compression. The first real-time MPEG-2 encoder chips from C-Cube Microsystems were specifically designed to be used in parallel. Back then (1993), encoding an SD (720x480) i

It's so easy to have a SPARCStation emulation with QEMU these days, it's difficult to justify having ancient hardware taking up space in the house. Netscape 4.76 on Solaris 8. It took a while to find a website that still rendered.

We had figured out the issue years before that episode. We did write him a nice application note / errata describing the issue. They were just declaring static/global variables that they didn't know were forbidden.

Just an aligned malloc. The cache line size was eight 64-bit words, so aligning on 64 byte boundaries did the trick. The failure mechanism is when one processor writes a memory variable, the entire cache line is written. If the variable is

Same situation on the LSI Logic (actually, it came from C-Cube Microsystems) processor. One SPARC core running VxWorks and applications and the other SPARC core running bare metal and MPEG-2 codecs. The first version of the chip was introdu

When I worked at LSI Logic, we had a dual core processor that didn't have any cache consistency at all between cores. You actually had to pad all memory allocations to a cache line so that the two cores didn't interfere with each

There's plenty of spectrum at 39 GHz. The band is 1400 MHz wide (38.6 to 40.0 GHz). The problem is that current fixed point to point licenses are only 100 MHz wide, so the demo has to fit into that constraint. However, the FCC will be
