Oh I didn't mean to imply that we can't have both. I completely hope that Matias (the UI/UX guy from Palm that everyone juices over) can come in and beautify android.

You act as if "first movers" ever don't get screwed by Apple. I understand that technology is constantly evolving and that by time I buy a phone, a better one is being produced, but I can't shake the feeling that Apple schedules their rel

Apple saying their going to stop ruling the AppStore like a dictatorship and introducing an open-protocol voice chat that they could champion? It would definitely get a second look from me. A higher density screen that is only slightly bett

Actually I'd love Froyo on hardware like the iPhone 4. It's never going to happen, but I can dream can't I?

I think you misunderstood my point. Matias Duarte is "famed" UI guy that just left Palm/HP's WebOS team for Google's Android team. I'm not sure about Google's ability to retain talent... but I'm hopeful that Matias can bring Android some UI

That's not true. Non-"Google Experience" have plenty of access to all of the Android Google APIs, etc. If they didn't no apps that used Google Maps, Navigation, etc would work. The Google APIs are something that 3rd party apps rely on. Goog

Not really. I am not nearly ignorant enough to imply that any of the various aspects of desktop multitasking will be viable or well suited for a mobile platform any time in the future, nor would I want it to be. The fact that Apple doesn't

I don't understand why that's an advantage? It's just another of Apple's control vices. The hardware of the phone functions independently of the software and vice versa. Maybe for things like fragmentation or updates it makes sense, but I d

It's beautiful hardware and beautiful software. I'll take functionality any day though. This is the divide. I have two geeky friends. One is OCD and well dressed. He likes things to work smoothly and look good. He is very happy with his i

Apple has benefited far more than AT&T... look at the stock prices or revenues gained. I'm not saying they're benefitting specifically from exclusivity... they would make more with more carriers to be sure... but the notion that it's "b

Many people seem to think that OS 4 is going to bring this awesome multitasking. I think there's going to be a lot of disappointed people when they find out just how it works, seeing as the API for actually creating background services is c

What an unfair review. Compare like units. My Droid (especially now that it is running Froyo) has literally none of these problems. There is no lag between launching applications and when you replace the terrible stock launcher with Launche

All of my email is in Gmail, contacts in Google Contacts, text messages in Google Voice. Google beat them. Once the new Market launches with music and music sync, it won't batter what MS is doing.

I know it's OT, but I have a PC that is behind a firewall that I have no control over. I have a public server that I run/control. Can I use SSH to create a tunnel so that I can hit publicserver.com:port and have it route through a ssh tunne

I wish it worked like that. That way you wouldn't have to wait for a developer to enable copy/paste in the app, it would be there by default.

Language and syntax are not the same thing. You don't have exceptions to rules in programming languages like you do natural languages. That's the difference but in a more complex way. Through natural language, there are simply more intricat

Since when does a "standard" mean that it magically works across all browsers. Is HTML5 less of a "standard" because Microsoft is too lazy to implement it properly in their browser?

I have commented similarly and more conservatively of a similar opinion of Gruber on the last several high brow articles that have made it to HN. It's really become pathetic. I mean, it started with valid points but then he started sticking
