This is excellent advice, and points out how difficult parenting actually is. None of what you mention is easy, or path of least resistence. Especially waiting for highschool for the phone. We did sixth grade and we regret it now that our

Yes, it supplies about 10% of the region's water. At a 2x cost compared to other methods, but for residential the economics still make sense.

Thank you for this calculation. This water is primarily residential, versus the Colorado River compact water, which is majority agricultural. California exports hay (grown on Coloradio River compact water) to other countries, including Chi

South Florida has has an unusually dry summer so far and I think that has kept the due points down. As another comment said, give it time and it'll catch up to you. I'm in Boca Raton and it feels wonderful, but by July/Augu

Great points on managing expectations. In my experience the new voice repeater is quite busy on 437.800 output. While you won't be talking to astronauts, you'll be hearing it and often can see it move across the sky while listeni

I agree with this assessment. We moved from FL (0% income tax, 1.5% property tax) to CA (9% for us income tax, 1.05% property tax) and the quality of the infrastructure is at best on par. Which was surprising. Our SALT taxes went up 5x a

A combination of FOMO and the never-ending flow of passive money into the market, which is 45%+ [1] and probably growing. Passive investors do not analyze their investments, they blindly buy market indices like the S&P 500. With all of

Same thing in SoCal. Same exact house model selling for $200,000 higher than a few months back, under contract in 1 day. Demand high, supply very very low.

I tried to migrate a bunch of smaller images to this service several years ago, and then again about a year ago. The performance was not satisfactory back then and I found their docs recommended using it only for larger files [1] which to

Fair point, but it depends on where you live. Many places have lots of smaller animals like squirrels and rabbits. Even some deserts have rabbits and field mice, etc.

I'm not arguing, but we've cut private car use, and it seems like the world is ending, economically speaking. Hoping this creates habits that are good for climate beyond the immediate disaster. WFH, school changes, etc. Good ca

DO has more managed services like databases, k8s, etc. Otherwise they are very similar. Vultr has more locations in the US.

One nitpick on the transfer. DO offers 5TB which at $.12/GB on GCP would be $600 worth of transfer not $8. If you need lots of egress DO wins hands down. Realistically few are going to need the full 1TB and most will be closer to 2-1

Agree. With tools like Remote VS Code it's definitely as good if not better than in person because you each have your own creature comforts but share the same workspace (even terminal) and can edit the same file at the same time.
