I thought windows required all kernel modules to be signed..? If there are multiple corrupt copies, rather than just some test escape, how could they have passed the signature verification and been loaded by the kernel?

When I started doing driver development on MacOS X in the early 2000s, there were a number of questions on the kernel/driver dev mailing lists for darwin from AV vendors implementing kernel extensions. Most of them were embarrassing q

Low power is my main interest in these mini-pcs. Eg, the ability to use "laptop" level CPUs in servers that do a lot of IO, but have smart NICs that can offload TLS.

I came here to say a lot of this. One thing you didn't mention that I'd like to see is what, if any, PCIe slots there are. This is pretty rare in mini PCs, and I've only seen it on the Minisforum ms-01 ( https://st

Has anybody ever just straight up stolen a drug from a clinical trial and had it save their life? If there was ever a case for jury nullification..

Yes, it takes me back to configuring my X session for the first time on an NCD Xterminal in the computer lab at uni, connected to the schools's Sun and Dec servers. It was so much better than all the vt220 serial terminals, and they

I don't find that strange at all (prefering emacs to vi mode). I feel the same way. I use tcsh, and have it configured for emacs-style command line editing. I use emacs for complex stuff (coding) and vi for simple stuff (editing a c

I realize that. But every distro I've used uses an initramfs, so unless you want to build your own kernels, you're stuck with it, and the painfully slow initramfs updates when you update packages, and dkms (or similar) updates th

I personally think they're moving in the wrong direction. I'd rather have "NMIRFS" (no more initramfs). Eg, a smarter bootloader that understands all bootable filesystems and cooperates with the kernel to pre-load modu

The price is actually very competitive -- it is about 30% cheaper than the service that I use for my townhouse. Their site is very rough around the edges. I assume this is available only in the bay area?

If modulus is expensive, and he's checking a power-of-2, why not just use a bitwise AND. Eg, for positive integers, x % 16 == x & 15. That should be trivially cheap.

There already exists the comskip project used by most home-brew PVR software for broadcast TV. I wonder if it could be leveraged for this. See https://github.com/erikkaashoek/Comskip
