I have a Model X on the east coast of the USA. I charge at home, and only use superchargers when away from home (even though I have free supercharging). In the last year, just 4% of my car's energy has come from superchargers. The Tes

There are a number of things to look at 1) Airdrop goes and scans for peers periodically and borks wifi. Try ifconfig awdl0 down. See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31706283 2) Try separating your 2.4 and 5GHz net

How much bandwidth does Twitter use for images and videos? Less than 1.4Tb/s globally? If so, we could probably fit that onto a second machine. We can currently serve over 700Gb/s from a dual-socket Milan based server[1]. I&

Very nice! I agree with your wish that Apple put 6E capable wifi chipsets in their products. To me the benefit of 6E is the additional frequencies that are available. What, if any, wintel laptops support 6E these days?

The syscalls section of https://wiki.freebsd.org/DTrace/One-Liners makes this super easy. I periodically "audit" our Netflix CDN stack looking for silly things and fixing them..

I remember seeing my dad's erector set from sometime in the 1940s. He'd made a working saw, using the lid from a tin can as the saw blade.

The last I checked, they don't support OpenBMC. This is a deal killer for a lot of folks, for security reasons.

While we're at it, I'd like to give a shout-out to the UEFI devs who decided that in their shell, certain elements should be dark blue on a black background. That's lead to so much fun over the years when recovering machines

I came here to say exactly that. However, in one sense of the word, we do owe a lot of the modern tech stack to ATT. Between their invention of transistors, and their invention of UNIX, they do form the basis of the modern tech stack tha

I'm not a fan of companies telling me what I want. I'm aware things take time, and the food we order from this place travels well and reheats well. Post a click-thru warning and let me decide for myself.

Hmm.. Lyft has no option for consumers (though they do have a delivery service open to businesses) Uber has a package delivery option. That actually sounds interesting. I may try that the next time we're at her place.

I'm much more interested in a free-form decentralized general delivery platform for food. The customer places the order directly with the merchant, and the delivery person just delivers and is paid directly for delivery. Why? Because

The Intel PCM suite does what you seem to be describing w/o a kernel module, and it uses nicely abstracted MSR accesses so that its portable to any OS. https://github.com/intel/pcm

Why does it need a kernel module, rather than just using the MSR API like similar tools do? Intel's PCM tools for example, show quite similar information, and are available on a variety of OSes..

Try a moving truck rental, and rent a van. They're set up for one-way, and often have stock when car rentals are sold out. Some of my ex-wife's colleagues returned from a conference in Denver back to the east coast in a u-haul van
