Yep, saying your going to gassify crude oil and then recycle the co2 is basically like saying your going to unspill milk. The only point in the thing's favor is that there's tons floating around already.

"Co2 fixation" / capture is the starting keyword you want, though "coalgas" frequently turns up good fundemental work from the 80s. https://pubs.acs.org/journal/jacsat#/action/doMobile

As a former chemist involved in the field, no, we're really not. Reading the Joule letter referenced, it's basically just cheerleading, which does need to happen every few years to keep people going. Last I was involved, all the m

I'd second this, plus Jeremy and Rachael hang out on HN occasionally. I've also worked my way through "Hands on machine learning with scikit learn and tensorflow" by Geron and have found it pretty approachable, up until

I'll bite. At their heart, all antidiscrimination laws are based on the idea of equalizing power. The law doesn't care if people with one set of genitals doesn't want to hang out with people of another set. What it is concer

It's really crazy when you look at just how many murders / deaths we have compared to anyone else. I decided to check the right-wing conspiracy theory that if you dropped the top four Democratic controlled cities from the US numbe

I'd assume because our bodies have a pretty big buffer store to avoid pH effects, and most ammonia based derivatives would be concentrated in the external mucus membranes not the lungs, at least that's most inhaled acids work, I&#

As another former chemist, I just wanted to agree with this statement. And for industrial cleaners, read the MSDS and act accordingly. It's not that hard to find the correct version of masks and gloves for the task you do everyday.

I'm not sure that actually answers my question (which was admittedly rhetorical), if this has been going on since the 70s, (and longer!), what's changed that it is such a problem to you now as part of the left, while say 10 years

Fwiw: I think you're being down voted because the citations you mention have all become a part of the controversy rather than being external evidence. Each of the scientists you mentioned above have at times before this controversy sho

I've seen this sentiment from former fans of left leaning fiction, and I have to ask: are you sure it's not the culture that's stayed the same and you who drifted right?

Are sure you don't just hear about lower class white racism more because they're more numerous than older Korean(-Americans)? That seems like mostly a scaling issue to me. It's sort of like how people say "well, some Afr

Since you only seen to be getting "disagrees" I want to say I agree with you. Obviously no friend is going to be without fault, but also there has to be a line where you say "no, given this, we can't be friends." Wh

shrug offering pay isn't meant as an insult, but to show we value your time. If we can't afford your hourly rates, we probably can't afford to offer you a salary you'd be happy with.

Our strategy is to save the take-home for after the in person interview, and to pay you for the time (up to the limit we expect), then a follow up to talk about the work. I'm about to start applying to new positions and it sounds like

I think you're value judging a lot of people without cause. Parental wealth is a huge factor as well, my parents are terrible at saving and basically paid for nothing directly for me (despite both having high payingish jobs) but thankf

At the risk of stereotyping, I don't think you or I are the target consumer. The last high end fashion item I bought was a suit 3 years ago. Meanwhile my wife buys from the same higher end fashion retailers over and over.

There's nothing curative, but there's a fair bit of palliative care drugs, esp. for early stage, at this point. Getting on them a little early might mean another year or two of independence which is no small thing.

I think that's slightly different, an "outside of context" problem, as Banks would say. The cows didn't leave enough flexibility to adapt to the unexpected, rather than just being inefficient.
