This looks really cool, just one quick question - I'm not really interested in all that Angular/React stuff, I just want my favourite VS Code in the browser (as a 'thin' client between my browser and my VPS, for example)

ShareLaTeX is such a joy to use. I used to write a lot of LaTeX, but don't anymore, so don't even have it installed on my laptop. Whenever I need to typeset anything, I just pop it into their web interface, do some light editing a

I never deal with such low level issues, so I don't have to read this, but... reading these posts by antirez is such a joy. He makes this topic so clear and understandable, he doesn't assume much, he doesn't use overly comple

With `npm` and the current JavaScript culture, both a weekend project and the Linux kernel could have the same number of SLOC.

I see it's still a thing. Back in high school, some ten+ years ago, I coded up an 'ip2country' website. Not sure why, there were dozens of those. I guess I had a free domain and a lot of time on my hands. I put some Google Ad

I thought it was a problem to navigate through all AWS services. Then I discovered (surely not) all the Apache projects. This is by no means a criticism, rather amusement when looking at all the projects within the epic Apache ecosystem.

Do you know how John Oliver's "cool" remark, when he's being sarcastic? That pretty much describes every single response I got when I told my superiors I automated (a part of) my job. I don't expect them to pop a ch

I've been wondering what the best way to implement SIMD in a JITless language was. While I'm a big proponent of static compilation (coding mostly in Go), this runtime inflexibility is a bit painful. Sure, you could compile multipl

Writing thin clients that serve data to browsers for charting/tabling purposes is one of my favourite pastimes. So I'm thrilled there's another tool for this job, especially one that abstracts many of the boring aspects of th

My favourite thing about Jupyter notebooks is that you can render them locally to avoid the Jupyter hassle if you don't have it installed for some reason (or if you don't want to run it). Upon reading this, I decided to implement

Julia frustrates me. I was in a mathematical modelling sphere, so I learned the language basics years ago and immediately fell in love (multiple dispatch, optional types, broadcasting, ...). But I couldn't get approvals at work to push

Is the editor size an issue? For quick startup, sure, but when the tool is actually running? (Which at least on my machine, it's on most of the day anyway.) I used to prefer lean editors (vim, Sublime), but then intellisense and plugin

Chuffed about math.bits. You can always implement these yourself, these are short (albeit a bit cryptic) snippets, but having these in the standard library means that they will be regularly updated for various architectures and CPUs. Good s

Until last December, I would live in rooms well under 100 square feet, for about four years. I won't go into details how I got there, but surprisingly, money wasn't the issue. Anywho. I kind of got used to it and it wasn't ha

Whenever I look at drastic improvements in performance, I remember that a while ago I managed to speed up a custom parser at work, by about 30x. When I emailed my colleagues, I just said "You may consider this to be work of a genius. O

Just an irrelevant side note: When you do a requests.get(url), you can use the .json() method on it instead of all the json.loads([...].text). I remember doing the same for years and only discovering .json() recently, I love it.
