Perhaps not quite as big as you're imagining though. If there's, say, a spamassassin rule for it (we actually wrote one for our initial version of the centmail protocol) then it might be worth your while as a sender to sign up, to help avo

I just blogged about the whole "rent vs buy" thing: http://messymatters.com/2009/06/01/buyrent/ If you don't believe in timing the market then the rent vs buy decision just doesn't matter nearly as much as people act like it does. The bi

I have a potentially silly question: When you buy stock in a public company you have specific protection from liability -- the worst that can happen is you lose your investment. As an angel investor the worst case is worse, in theory. If

Holy crap, that's handy! Thanks so much! Out of curiosity (and in hopes of eliciting a reply to see if it shows up in my new Hacker News Responses feed!) would this also be easy to do with Yahoo!Pipes?

The economist Steven Landsburg tried to come up with a word for this and decided to co-opt the word "gumption", redefining it as consisting of the following: 1. Sensitivity to know what needs doing. 2. Inventiveness to figure out how

This is not quite as interesting as it sounds. Ie, they're not using Tipjoy as a way to have real-money prediction markets (which would be wonderful and, sadly, illegal in the US). I wonder if an unspoken agreement could be reached among li

What you're actually trying to do is known as price discrimination. In other words, you want people who value the spaces more to pay more. Airlines, for example, do this by charging more if your trip doesn't span a Saturday (since that me
