Right, but they’re avoiding that risk by passing on a risk to the customer, that their PII will be mishandled. Because handling that PII is not only cheap, it’s profitable!

It’s probably not an LLM, nor a small transformer-based model, but it is a language model. Probably the kind that powered auto-correct before GPT. The generated words agree in grammatical gender and plural forms, so by definition it’s a lan

How many sign ups you have with an @icloud.com address? A lot of those are Hide My Email aliases that, by design, you can’t tell apart from real human addresses.

Hide My Email addresses are not just a random string at icloud.com. They use plausibly-human names, probably generated by a language model. There’s no easy-to-check pattern. They’re not switching the subdomain. They’re keeping it the same.

We gotta stop normalizing that. Why do you need my address to receive my money? My birth date? Even in places with strong privacy regulations requiring businesses not to collect data they don’t need, businesses apparently get away with aski

IIRC they did make a breaking change by changing the default character encoding to UTF-8 without BOM. They also started rendering and preserving Unix-style line endings (LF). Very welcome breaking changes :)

Input size and output complexity are not necessarily the only two dimensions involved. There’s no reason to think that such graph would show a continuous frontier.

I don’t appreciate the personal attack. You don’t know me. Permissions have nothing to do with preventing fingerprinting, they have to do with user control. Every permission you add that the app can inspect is one extra bit of fingerprint,

TIL about custom VBIOSes. Why don’t the OEMs of GPUs aimed at OCing just ship with a BIOS that exposes more tweaks through software though…

The hard parts to design about this, imo, are: - How to reconcile this with tests that execute many times with varying input data. You’d need some way to express requirements with specific inputs or shared inputs. - Passing state between te

If you overclocked too far, you could remove the CMOS battery or hold the CLR_CMOS button that these high-end boards probably had. Two BIOS chips was supposed to protect you from bad BIOS updates or a bad BIOS mod, just like the scenario fr

For Bluesky, sure. I think the comment was aimed at the trend. Android and iOS should not let apps do this, because it can be (ab)used by apps that you can’t really choose not to use. I know there’s a popular bank in my country that complet
