Just being in the closet is not evidence that a person wasn't actively gay. What is your evidence that gay sex happened less frequently when homosexuality was forbidden?

Claude Shannon was a physicist . He got paid to think about the big century-defining ideas. Engineers are supposed to think about the concrete here and now, that's our whole purpose. Shannon was an extremely important person, a genius, and

A further blow in the war on sharing. Of course, this is business as usual for MS. My mom taught me to share before I was old enough to walk. No government or corporation in the world is going to change my opinion of it.

How many of those consumers know it's Linux under there? I think that's what they mean by "consciousness". For most Android users, you're lucky if they even know what "Android" means, let alone Linux.

Wasn't that the problem? I've never owned a Mac so I don't know, but I thought they changed it because the other plug was too secure, and people tended to pull their laptops off of tables when they tripped on the cord. I'd rather have to pl

On first thought, I would be annoyed at having to subscribe to multiple services to get the content I want. On second thought, however, isn't this basically a la carte programming the cable companies have been refusing us since forever? A f

Extensions should be for user convenience, not OS functionality. And files should be assumed to be text unless otherwise specified. IMHO.

Besides being a joke based off a classic Dilbert cartoon, Windows really is broken, at least in this one specific area. File extensions should only be used by people. The OS should have other ways of knowing the file type. And ".txt" is red

I don't understand how someone can lay copyright claim to a work they didn't create? I'm all for weakening copyrights. But this seems like weakening it only for the average person, while allowing huge organizations to scoop up any "unclaime

I will not buy Glass if there are ads. Period. I think most people are with me and Google knows this. This probably won't extend to Android or any other Google service, but I can see why they would choose to forgo ads in Glass.

We never ran out of whale oil, but does anyone think we should go back to using that as our main source of fuel? It isn't about running out, it's about cost and sustainability. Oil is getting more expensive and it isn't sustainable.

We're not talking about babies here. My six year old can take care of himself just fine if he's fed and has an adult around in case of emergencies. I have worked in my home office for hours while he played in the rest of the house, watched

Yeah, they're legitimate "research" projects, not "engineering" projects. No usable device is expected to be produced and put into service at the end. People funding that research are buying knowledge, not useful systems.
