Yeah I managed to get the file into the bucket. However I couldn't get the permissions to let it be publicly visible despite working through several tutorials. I ended up on Netlify, it's 1000x more my speed.

I hate AWS so much. I spent 3 hours trying to get a bucket to host a static single page of html and failed completely. I use amazon polly. I wanted to know how many characters I was using each month. I spent 2 hours searching through hundre

Another related question is how would you evaluate the quality of hires? So you hire for a team of 5 people who complete 83% of the tasks you set for them that year. How do you know if you hired well? Is this an excellent result or a terrib

Isn't there some fundamental mathematical structure here which makes these problems unsolvable? Like imagine 20 robots all trying to do some task, each one learning information as it goes. How much time should they spend doing the task

And another https://arxiv.org/pdf/1608.02644.pdf I'd really love to see someone like Deepmind get a hold of this. They are perfectly placed to apply a lot of resources to it and it's right in their wheelhouse

Yeah ok when you put it as a bet I think I'll back down ha ha :) I imagine there will be hold outs who will never switch to formal proofs, though they may simply take on co-authors who are just "formalizers". I also am probab

There are quite a few competing systems at the moment, as with all things software, each one wants to be the standard :) https://jiggerwit.wordpress.com/2018/04/14/the-architecture-...

I have done a little with http://us.metamath.org/ and I am sure within 10 years every professional mathematician will use formal proofs. The two prerequisites are 1) making a fluid and intuitive interface for inputting proo

I agree. I think also there's problems with how GDP is calculated. If everyone who used spotify was paying 79p per track you would see massive economic growth in the music sector. However because it's an all inclusive streaming se

It looks like it's just applying a bunch of filters/convolutions to the image. You could write it in C++ to be pretty quick, in CUDA you could get it down to microseconds I think. Though that does not take account of the latency o

Won't all drugs targeted at microbes fail eventually? Surely they create a strong selective pressure which favours the resistant strains. The wider and more frequently the drug is used the faster this process occurs?

Hypothesis: 1. Advances in fundamental science are what ultimately dictate the growth rate of an economy. For example when you discover quantum mechanics you can make lasers, circuit boards and therefore computers which boosts everything en

You can make jet fuel from air, water and power, it's just hydrocarbons. If we had enough electricity from renewables we could just make all the fossil fuels we wanted.

APM is an interesting question I think. Like what is the relative importance of APM to strategy? If I have 20% more APM than you do I beat you even if I totally pick the wrong units and build order? Could a super smart bot win against pro&#

I am not sure it is true that mathematical intelligence peaks early, people like to say it though and I'd be interested if there is evidence on it. Here are a lot of examples of good contributions by older mathematicians. https:/

I think the longevity of dietary advice is pretty low. Remember when eggs were the enemy, when fat was the enemy, when carbs were the enemy? Meat had to have it's turn sometime.

One thing I'm a bit confused about is why doesn't salary bidding fix this? For example if a 25 yr old coder is $X per year surely, even if you have terrible age discrimination, there must be some salary level, say $0.75*X where ha

IMO formal theorem proving is the future of mathematics for sure. I've been working on Metamath a bit and basically proving a new theorem reduces to a search problem over the theorems already proven. In 10 years I think every mathemati
