Yeah I’ve gotten real comfortable with the “skip” button or typing in my own idea of a realistic tip. The preprogrammed ones have gotten a bit much. I didn’t used to sweat this very often. But if this is how it is, this is how it’s gonna be

Sure, to each their own. I quit two years ago and have probably spent a few weeks of that programming. The place I left gave ICs a high degree of agency, and you run projects yourself, get the resources you need yourself. So the issue was n

> DE&I also means diversity of thought, especially when it's backed by data and financials. No it doesn’t. Don’t get me wrong, that would be nice and all, but that isn’t the point of DEI.

A previous workplace switched from this to a competitor, which had much worse graphing as far as I could tell. Seems like an important function for these tools! I wondered why they did that, I guess this is the answer.

With this series, I reckon one should not trouble oneself too much with “believability”.

Is there no performance gain that’s small enough to be not worth it? If there is, then we’re just haggling over where the line is. If there truly isn’t, well, enjoy that! Because you won’t be shipping.

It’s a lot simpler than that. Giving your product away shouldn’t be a “gotcha”. Nobody gets trolled with a free Netflix subscription.

I like Taleb’s example of the turkey on the farm. Days 1-999 are great! Plenty of food, space to roam around, protected from predators. Why would they expect day 1000 to be any different?

The situation is insane. The only way to navigate messages is “keep scrolling up”, no way to filter searches beyond a simple keyword search, there’s no read-only view so you lose your scroll position if you get a message, etc etc etc. The c

(This is down so I can’t read it) It has been amusing to watch the initial rampage about “Silicon Valley tech libertarians” turn into… confused silence, now that we don’t have anyone to yell at about all these other banks failing. I did see

“The medium is the message.” Yes, the nitpicking over language is silly. In some cases, actually sort of pathetic. It is true that these messages can be overwrought and whatever else, but it literally doesn’t matter what the content is besi

It’s not helpful to say branches are only refs as a way of arguing branches don’t exist. But it is helpful in understanding how they work, what it means to pass a branch argument to git for some operation. When I understood the reflog and h

I was lucky to see Hedberg before he died much too young. One of the times I’ve laughed hardest in my life is when he said “if I stand on this mic cord and talk for a while and then let it go, you’ll hear a bunch of jokes all at once”.
