EU institutions force them by controlling the policy. Sure, if you have a few millions to invest, you can go elsewhere, but if you have billions, you are most usually working with other people's or institutional money, and are fairly l

There are other models other than two extremes. For example, in (at least some) European countries there is not such thing as private person going bankrupt. However, of course that that person won't be sold to slavery. Simply, if you c

Doesn't any language that support Unicode allow that? Java for example. But, it's rather impractical to use, since greek letters are not that easy to type with English keyboard.

Interestingly, 500 years ago, math was to your taste. There were not much symbols in it, but lots and lots of English (or, more often, French, German, or Latin) sentences that took paragraphs upon paragraphs of text to describe what today a

Actually, I doubt that performance itself will be much different, since ClojureCL/OpenCL is quite good, even on Nvidia. The main benefits of using ClojureCUDA over ClojureCL may be some CUDA-specific functionality, and access to CUDA l

Don't be easily fooled. Even people in 3rd world countries who work at universities understand what a predatory journal is, and in fact publish there because they get easy publication with no sweat.

On the other hand, my 3 year old R9 290X runs a heavily optimized OpenCL code at the 70% of the speed at which my brand new Nvidia 1080 runs the equivalent code. 1080 costs close to 1000 euro, while R9 could probably be found second hand fo

Or, you know, people do a lot of typing in English or on English keyboard (when programming), and don't care or even want to switch keyboards to type something with diacritics.

I prefer to use OpenCL, but I think the second key factor why Nvidia dominates (the first is they integrated tooling) is that cuBLAS, cuFFT, cuDNN et.al work out of the box when you install CUDA Toolkit. clBLAS and clFFT? Good luck using th
