Smalltalk, Io and (possibly) Perl6 & Rebol are good examples of non-Lisp homoiconic languages which have full & robust metaprogramming.

Yep. And in Perl6 these were changed to: __LINE__ $?LINE __FILE__ $?FILE __PACKAGE__ $?PACKAGE __END__ =begin END __DATA__ =begin DATA ref: http://feather.perl6

I think both camps will feel much happier when something like refinements are added to Ruby. In Perl I can safely localise all my monkey-patching by using dynamic scoping: sub today { DateTime->now } { no warnings 'redefi

Very nice indeed. NB. Correction to my earlier comment elsewhere here about List::Gen & multiple lists because it does provide cross combinators and also gather/take which is a perl6 way of doing complicated (multi) list comprehension

IMDb do have an API, for eg. app.imdb.com, however this is meant for mobile applications and it can only be used if authorized in writing(!) by IMDb. On CPAN there is WebService::IMDB module which uses this mobile API. Also there is IMBDB:

Moose ( http://moose.perl.org ) also provides the same mechanism via augment/inner . Here is one of the examples in Perl/Moose: package GameObject { use Moose; has ['x', 'y'] => (is => 'rw', isa => 'Num');
