I'm a Mullvad customer and a big, big fan. They have great clients for ubuntu and my android phone, and are super fast. No problems or complaints here.

Would HN recommend grad school for a friend that just graduated with a biochem degree from a tier 2/3 school? I ask because he makes it seems like there are hundreds of well paying biotech and pharmaceutical positions that are easy to get i

I know it's anecdotal like your own post but I saw an Anthony Bourdain Singapore episode and he said it was one of the worst possible places for libertarians like himself. I know I hate it.

Fair point, I meant it in that prison officials don't issue the currency and in fact they actively discourage trade among prisoners. betterunix makes it seems like the state and money are essential for each others existence.

I'm interested in your third paragraph, particularly "Money demand comes from things like tax codes, debt/bankruptcy laws, torts, ...civil fines, etc." In prison, packs of cigarettes are money and none of the things you mentioned exist. Ye

Why would a triple arsonist be walking around free? If someone sets fire to 3 buildings I expect them to be in prison.

Yes they are. He said a researcher shared that information with police officers, not that they did anything but say "thanks a lot, this will help". I'm willing to bet no officer on the drug enforcement team even read the paper. No law local

Yeah because the majority of college students are going to study medicine. When people talk about the "end" of higher education they mean an end to the thousands of psychology, communications, liberal arts type degrees. We will still have u

All fair points. I guess I was looking at it from a criminal perspective. These same Chicago gangs are able to import cocaine from Colombia, ecstasy from Amsterdam, heroin from Afghanistan, hell even knock off purses and electronics from Ch

I don't think gun safety is the major issue, gun violence is the big killer. Biometric scanners and high tech safes may help save a few people but there are more murders during a Chicago summer than all school shootings in the last 10 years

Can you give me an example of how this would happen? If google spent millions solving a problem how would I copy the solution and integrate it into my product, considering I will never see google's codebase? Genuinely asking, a real world s

He was being sarcastic, but you are right. California has always been the place to "make it big". From tech to movies to the gold rush, the recent economic policies (last 30 years or so) have little to do with it.
