There was a sophomore class at Georgia Tech in the early 2000s (and maybe still going, not sure) where we all had to use Squeak. Theres some beauty to the language and its a very good way to learn about message passing. At the time though,

It’s true, but some of the most un-productive people I know also work a lot more than 40 hours. If anything it feels like no correlation to hours working.

I’ve written a lot of Erlang/Elixir, basing the stack for my last startup on it. I wouldn’t change that decision, but you are completely right on people not getting it. I way overestimated the capacity for even well educated devs wit

As others have said Slashdot was very early if not the first. The way they did moderation, which is very different from basically everyone else, and still unique and interesting. CmdrTaco did a great writeup on it back in 1999 https:/

So much vitriol here. There is a middle ground. The only friends and social interactions someone has shouldn't be related to work, as that tends to be quite exploitive, but there shouldn't be no friendship or social interaction at

A LOT of people hang out at McDonald’s. Older folks, kids after school, etc. In some neighborhoods they function as something like community hubs (third spaces) during their non-peak times.
