It takes some time to get used to and change mental model from "program describes step by step what to do" to "program describes logical flow of information". I moved from first camp to the second one somewhere during my

Maybe not all of it everywhere, but yes. Any tax is always passed on to the "end users" to certain extent (-/+ elasticity and competitiveness) - something that a lot of people don't understand. If you tax 50% income of p

I realize that, but it's still stupid. It's a tax. We'll pay it one way or another. I am planing to buy a house in CA, and it doesn't really matter to me that much if it's taken from me at the register, in the prope

I did used nixops. I quite enjoyed it, though the local state database was annoying. I wish it was more like k8s, keeping its state internally in a distributed db. I'll look into disnix. Thanks!

Thanks. I will look at this and other comments, but I don't want stuff that involves docker in any way. Only NixOs + containers.

Containers are great, but everything else that Docker does is very meh. Slow, inconvenient, hard to work with. What I'd really want is a system that takes nix files (see Nix & NixOS), and gets that running as a container. Or someth

The way I see it it: With C/C++, you have to to have a team of 5 senior devs, and they have to cross-check each other work all the time. With Rust, you could have 1 senior Rust dev, and 4 junior devs, and they would arrive in a better

On the other hand duplication is harder to review. If you have 20 lines of x1 * y[i] + z2 x2 * y[i] + z3 ... or other dense math code, then it takes a lot of effort to spot any tiny mistake. Duplication vs abstraction is a

Excuse my confusion. I understand "the Bao project evolved into BLAKE3", but "is now based on BLAKE3" confuses me. Bao is based on blake3? But isn't bao ... the blake3 itself now? Circular dependency detected.

Can you point in more detail where was the cheating? What you link to talks over the great `unsafe` drama, but that's not cheating. `unsafe` is in Rust for a good reason. Every C and C++ codebase is effectively one big `unsafe` block f

Ideally programming languages should include capability-based access control, so that a random library that is supposed to do X, can't do Y. Until then, we need to vet our dependencies. Check out https://github.com/crev
