If Growl is going to remain Open Source, as the note says, then someone should really compile a free version from the google code repository and give folks the option to buy it in the App Store or download the community version. Although I

This is an example of one of those situations where it doesn't pay to be 'over clever'. If you call the bomb squad to report a bomb under your car but as a technology-inclined person/geek know full well it's a GPS receiver then you're commi

If you have access to the code that is storing your data, you have the option to host it yourself or pay someone else to host it with the same client. That's certainly true in 'regular' open source economics. But storage is somewhat uniqu

This is one of those examples where yes, that sounds like a good idea but the size of the addressable market is rather slim. Most self-publishers are not making huge amounts of money to justify spending more than a token amount on such moni

You could look at it the other way... Yes, those Web APIs broke things when they were deprecated and then removed - but in many cases they allowed progress and innovation to occur swiftly within the vendor that offered them. Conversely, whi

Just to point out, if Apple did what I'm suggesting they would still achieve the same effect because the laptop would be on and thus shining through. It's only when it's off that they would miss out - but most of the time if my laptop is ou

I'd have to respectfully disagree, or at least suggest the situation is a lot more nuanced than that. Dems (well, Obama) 'clarified' (read: changed the law slightly in a way that didn't need new legislation) the USCIS guidelines for self-

As a Canadian I have to say it's easy to get short-term non-immigration visas (TN's, which technically are a status not a visa). But green-card/immigration visas are no easier for Canadians than anyone else.

the tl:dr of this comment thread is that most HN'ers have sadly taken the question too literally and are commenting on the fact Google reads emails with a definition of "read" being that of "parse" (ie computationally). I think most people
