I think a lot of sites could learn from how they do their newsletter subscription, an non-invasive part of the site rather than a pop up window preventing me to use the site until I close it.

Telus is one of the major Canadian telecom companies, and one of the largest ISP in Canada. As such they provide @telus.com email address, and my thinking is that this is why they would add google.com to their SPF record, so that people reg

I wonder if telus did this to allow people using their email system to use Google calendar to send reminders.

Mobile only is sad... I want to be able to chat from whatever platform I'm on right now, like hangout and xmpp previously.

The non-mobile version of the sites works really well on mobile browser. What does the apps add to the browser experience?

For some blog sites I agree, but here it is Philip Greenspun who shares his email, phone number and physical mailing address on his website! I've sent an email about the typo at that address. I usually look for an email on the blog sit

Or use S3 or equivalent. Who will know how how to take care of your personal NAS when you're dead?

They haven't found "him", they found the beach where the pic of the beer bottle was taken. Nobody knows when that pic was taken, by who, and who's hand is holding it.

Has it been confirmed his twitter and amazon accounts haven't been broken into? Can somebody confirm that first image ( https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DbDvp9iXkAYaY6s.jpg ) hasn't been photo-shopped? Those images

I'm frankly not interested to be part of an exclusive social media thing where only people who have phones can participate.

You do not need to install the reddit apps ever. You can sign up, and use it, through their web interface. In fact when I use reddit from my phone (through Firefox) I force it to use the non-mobile version as I find it much faster (as long

It's worse... Once you've signed up through mobile, you can use it from any browser. Makes you wonder why it wants you to sign up on mobile... Wants your phone number? Wants access to you contacts?

I'm surprised the article nor the comments here mention Harvard professor Eric Mazur and his "evidence-based, interactive teaching" Peer Instruction method. This video is a bit long, but goes into details of his scientific ap

What about ipv6? There were rumours that they were getting 2001:2001:: and 2001:2001:2001::, but I can neither ping those addresses not use them to resolve.

I love the fact that the consortium managed to get 9.9.9.9 (because Google's 8.8.8.8) and named themselves Quad9!

I agree to a certain extent. Definitely aliases. But, for your main tools, if dot files can make a difference then you should make an exception. Vim without my .vimrc is almost a different apps, and I'm way less efficient without it!

I wonder about streaming services that let you rent and buy by the unit? I've been renting movie on google a lot more lately. The business model of a monthly fee is an incentive for making diluted content (long series) vs concentrated

I do. Public transportation is cheaper and less stressful than other options if I cannot walk there, or arriving all sweaty from riding my bycicle isn't a good option. Watching a movie at home is cheaper (7 $ HD for the whole family),

I do that, discovered lots of good movie that way, and discussed different perspectives etc... Why would you need a cinema or watch a movie together? Do you only discuss books you have read with and at the same time as your friends?

Cinemas will die anyway. I'm personally shocked they still exist. I rent movies from google and Amazon an watch series on Netflix. Used to rent DVDs before that. Cinema made sense in the early 20th century, but not today.
