Slightly off-topic, but does anybody know of a kind of "LISP Challange" set? I recently started the Matasano challenges[0] and I found them really well-suited to my style of learning (learning by doing and expanding by reading rel

Also note that DNS lookups do not go through a SOCKS proxy, which leaves a huge surface of attack and monitoring.

What is it about a smaller block size that makes it less secure? Wikipedia mentions that it's recommended not to encrypt files larger than 4GB because of the block size but it never specifies why.

As another comment mentioned, .unwrap() is really useful for testing things out, but any legitimate (read: with intent to be used for some practical purpose) library or program is going to handle most errors. One edge case may be calling un

Interesting to see this as a novel thing in another ecosystem. Rust actually uses "stream" manipulation as a default way of dealing with things that might otherwise be expressed as full data structures. For example, the equivalent

For a scripting language, Go is very strict with compile-time errors that could just as well be warnings. Unused variables, unused imports, dead code, etc. Other than that, I could see Go as a pretty useful scripting and systems language.

I think you're conflating three issues. One is of course unsafe native code, which could at least in part be fixed by picking a different programming language ( cough Rust) that has stronger guarantees. Another is correctness of the i

Loading everything into memory at once shouldn't be necessary to produce a hash of the entire input. All of the hash functions currently supported allow for incremental hashing. That means you can hash in blocks instead of all at once.

Pretty much. There's always the option of putting it in a container (using Docker, for instance) or VM but chroot is probably the most commonly used and has the least overhead.
