There is no such thing as the soap opera effect. Good quality sets and makeup and cameras look good at 24 or 48 or 120 fps. People like you insisting on 24 fps causes people like me to unnecessarily have to choose between not seeing films,

It’s happened to me since before any cinemas were digital. I only figured out why by trying to play games below 30 fps. At least for me, it’s definitely the frame rate.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
Exactly, even the second one was a poor caricature.

That film had many problems, but the acceptable frame rate was not one of them. Most criticism wasn’t about that.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
The same happens to me in cinemas at 24 fps, it’s not the display technology that is giving me headaches.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
If films shot at a decent enough frame rate, people wouldn’t feel the need to try to fix it. And snobs can have a setting that skips every other frame. Similar is the case for sound and (to a much lesser extent) contrast. Viewers need to be

I have a 120 fps TV. Panning shots at 24 fps still give me an instant headache. Real is good, it’s ergonomic and accessible. Until filmmakers understand that, I’ll have to keep interpolation on at the lowest setting.

# is in its proper place, if you grew up programming on a US-derived keyboard. Some of the other changes aren’t great, I agree.

It’s certainly a matter of opinion. I dislike the UK layout, except on macs where it’s just about ok.

The big enter key I do like. But I’ve ended up using a split keyboard where every key is 1u. All language layouts map to the physical layout in basically the same way.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
Sure, I’m familiar with the weird UK layout.

13. The entire laptop can be easily and worryingly flexed by hand when closed. The keyboard in particular flexes by more than a millimetre when pressing on a key or in between them. It seems ridiculous when the much cheaper and thinner MacB

The solution is to get blank keycaps. Then it doesn’t matter.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
I tried a coworker’s, I was a bit shocked how poor the case is. Everything flexes badly, especially the keyboard. I was considering one, but definitely not worth it. I can get a ThinkPad for less and it’s much better quality.

Only some of the time. I think the last time I ran amd64 on my mac was months ago, a game.

That used to be true. For a while now, any petrol car can run on high ethanol mixed without any damage.
47.
by dontlaugh 10mo ago
Sure, but in this case there already is plenty of real evidence.

There’s no need to frame Clinton, there is plenty of evidence he was friends with and spent a lot of time with Epstein. Similarly situation with Trump, for that matter.

I’ve also found docker / k8s to mostly just get in the way. Even VMs are often a problem, depending on the details of the game. Bare metal is the only actually good option, but you often have to do a lot yourself. Multiplay did offer i

Prisoners cannot consent to many things, including labour. It’s slave labour, whether you like it or not.

The PS5 does actually record video all the time in a ring buffer. That’s how when you press the share button, it includes a video of the recent past.

Yea, but less than in the past. Modern graphics APIs are much thinner layers. This was even proven in practice with Intel’s Arc. While they had (and to some extent still have) their share of driver problems, at a low enough price that isn’t

To be fair, the Twingo mk3 even has the front passenger seat fold down. In van mode the interior is huge for a small car.

But you’d be left without volume control, or at least from the same remote you control the TV with.

It is in the UK, but I don’t think it is on the continent.

It sort of worked for me, but it was very unreliable. I tried Proton and Astrill, both of which worked much better. Mullvad is pretty good overall though.

by dontlaugh 10mo ago
Good. I expect this will become a widespread practice to deal with the already widespread problem.

Some already use probabilistic methods to automatically produce proofs for specifications and code they wrote manually. It’s one of the few actually useful potential use cases for LLMs.

How so? The drive towards monopoly, tendency of the rate of profit to fall, over and under production and cyclical ever worsening crises are aspects of capitalism well studied and understood over a century ago.
