Creepy Cameraman is a Paparazzi, meaning that what he is doing to common folks on video is no different from what famous people are being subjected to everyday. Question is why is it acceptable to us when Paparazzis do it to Hollywood stars

Thanks. I am frequently grumpy as well so I thought I would respond as I would like to be responded to when I am in that state of mind. It takes a lot of energy to perma-grumpy.

I went with PNG over SVG because I wanted to keep things unfancy until later given that SVG versions are much bigger than PNG versions and I've heard rumors of SVG issues on Mobile Safari. Optional SVG support will likely be added later. Re

Ah, yes. I'm not certain why the original version did that but when I changed it to same size as others, 10 card 'stuck out' like a sore thumb. I'm thinking about either switching to a narrower version of Helvetica like real poker cards do.

OP and author here. I'm a long time HN reader but this is only my second submission. I know my weekend hack is no where near amazing but I think it's useful which is why I intentionally spent extra time making it easy to reuse. Could you ex

Yup. While formal education is not necessary, one has to keep learning to stay in the forefront of this profession. If you stop, your 'shelf-life' is 10 yrs at most.

Such lib is not hard to write. Somewhat limiting but simple version could just be a Canvas API wrapper that breaks down lines and curves into smaller lines then jiggle the points randomly before rendering the points out using Catmull-Rom to

To improve the endgame, I would introduce power-ups, like a pill that when 'swallowed' temporarily turns player's balloon into a triangle that could puncture large balloons into many small ones. Multiplayer with larger field and obstacles c

Your stats are inline with what I expected. Thanks. What I was actually interested in was PubNub stats to see how such service can help with apps like yours and to help in figuring out how much it'll cost.

Agreed. It would be nice to see running charts or stats showing # of users online, average messages/second, and average $/hr at $1 per 1M rate.

Ironic that a follower of Buddha's path saw and felt exactly what Buddha saw and felt thousands of years ago yet failed to recognize it. More ironic is how Buddha's lifeboat for the poor and hungry turned out to be intellectual's tool for e

Re salt, please see project-rainbowcrack.com as an example of CUDA-driven hash cracking. Re download hash, I think we disagree on what data integrity means. By data integrity, I mean trustworthiness which implies security, meaning file cont

Yes, user-specific salt does raise the cost but given the usual length and complexity of passwords in-use IRL, raise is not massive enough for high security servers. Besides, the point of my original comment was the problem of placing every

Your answers make sense in the context of servers for websites with low security needs, where privacy is of higher concern than security. They do not make sense for servers with high security needs.

It doesn't matter if the hash is split into X parts and stored on X servers. We are not talking about Humpty Dumpty here and salt-specific rainbow tables can be built on-demand as long as the reward justifies the time and expense.

Where to store the salt is that's where the real problem is. It doesn't really matter how much encryption and hashing we throw at anything if everything is stored on the same server. What's the point of salt if salt is in plain sight? What'
