This article does a decent job at capturing the grind that is interviewing in software engineering. The expectations during the interview process are high and only get higher the longer you've been in the industry. I wonder how much

The way I see it a lot of the best people would probably never bother going through a take home test. A company with a simpler, quicker interview process would have already snatched them up.

Yeah if you want to get into the industry a bachelor's degree in CS is worth it especially if it'll only take two years.

The amount it's valued at seriously blows my mind. Like this is an app that's main features are sending 10 second videos and images.

Sueing a gigantic company requires lots of money, courage, and could leave you a marked person. It's not that easy of a thing to do.

Selection bias is a thing. Also like others are mentioning glassdoors data is not always accurate. Especially for people with lots of experience. But I don't think 200k base salary is that abnormal in Silicon Valley to be honest. A

Yeah I've seen positions offering 200k base salary for less then 10 years experience with java.

Yeah I agree with this that most software engineers should consider this. It's another way to set yourself apart from the masses that most people will never put in the time and effort to do. The idea that other people put forward tha

For me I just realized I wasn't very fulfilled by playing video games all of the time. Nowadays I still like to play games but in smaller amounts. Instead of building things in games I now find myself wanting to build software projec

I would say write it up anyways even if it seems trivial. Things that seem trivial to you could still really help someone out. Especially someone new to the problem.

Was software engineering ever meritocratic? It certainly doesn't seem so to me. Never mind the problem of how to evaluate who's the best which seems impossible.

The worst part about this question is they try to get you to answer it before you've even really figured out what the role is.

Reminds me of how when you say you dont know everything about XYZ language/framework to an hr person or recruiter they look at you like incompetent. Meanwhile saying that you knew everything about XYZ language/framework to a tech

I saw a book that focuses on teaching Python through Minecraft for kids that looks promising. It may be a bit advanced for a 7 year old however.

I think it would be good to display immediately what the purpose of the site is. I have to scroll down to even be able to figure out that it is about chatting/meeting people.

Seems a bit harsh to be detained for 16 months because a judge thinks you're lying.

No, I don't like to live my life in paranoia. Also anyone that was sufficiently motivated could just implement it themselves anyways.

What is interesting is looking at the actual growth rate of salaries in software engineering. For all the talk about not being able to find qualified people, the salary growth seems stagnant.

Hmm makes me wonder what the result of running this fuzzing test on other regex libraries would be.

I feel like it probably did more good then bad. Codebases devoid of any design patterns arent likely great quality. But it requires judgement to not over engineer.
