It's not even that. There are several k8s packages on MELPA and they are meant for real use rather than a blog joke.

And JSON support in Emacs is not some obscure feature these days, it's heavily relied on by many popular packages.

Feels very weird to me too. The problem is that PC meant something much more specific at the time and nobody would have called the Spectrum or even an Amiga or Macintosh a PC.

For email I disagree. notmuch and mu4e are very good and being able to apply your normal text editing tools in a text oriented context like email is very useful. If there are better tools out there I haven't found them yet.

Emacs has several. M-x term is elisp all the way down, M-x vterm uses libvterm but it's still very customizable and expandable on the Lisp side.

If you check CCC that particular sku has jumped directly from $3-$4 to $9 a while back so it might be have gone out of production. A quick Amazon search shows 300 for $2.29 or 1000 for $8.77. (Compared to the 500 for $3-ish of the original)

GUD in Emacs (M-x gdb) is another example of this. You are still interacting with the gdb cli but also get some source code buffer integration.

Don't think that X11 is a great example since it has great backwards compatibility. Just about all userspace components are worse.
