That's what I meant by "no catch-all choices yet". There is no reason Google or Apple couldn't get in the game if they choose to. Supposedly Facebook is making a go at it for whatever that's worth. I offered the ema

I ended up blocking keyboard events from a userscript to deal with the keyboard hijacking. This combined with opting out of all the "feature previews" has made it more or less usable again for now. But the writing is on the wall,

It's quite possible to build and use sudo without PAM support even on Linux, most distributions just tend to build everything in "kitchen sink" mode. If I remember right on Alpine it's PAM-free by default so it doesn

Yes, people suck and I wish they didn't but the other side of the problem is that the centralized flat-namespace model of PyPI is especially vulnerable.

If you go with a modern equivalent ("rclone mount" or sshfs) you could probably set those up faster than the Dropbox client.

BrandonM was right all along. Nowadays you'd probably use "rclone mount" or sshfs though. (For anyone wondering the parent is channeling https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8863 )

People manage to deal with this when they sign up for their email account. It's just that we don't (yet) have the equivalent of gmail (or hotmail, aol before that) as a default option.

That hasn't been my experience. I joined a couple months ago and I have yet to see a single instance of toxicity in my feeds or replies. But I am guessing it greatly depends on the type of groups and content you interact with. The grea

I run ssh in a loop and auto-attach to a persistent tmux session on the other end. I also kill ssh processes as part of suspend so that the new one gets launched in the loop as soon as we wake up.

Yeah, it's interesting that Emacs has ended up with lisp-interactive-mode as the primary "REPL" (even though it's not exactly the same thing). Kind of like the type-anywhere interactive input in Commodore BASICs vs using

I count 36 Super bindings and I started using them for Emacs in 2016. I was using them for StumpWM before that. Some of it is EXWM specific but about half also apply on a tty frame too. My fingers just automatically type the alternate versi

Not disagreeing with the overall point but that particular example is from an AWK JSON parser implementation so the whole point is to do it in AWK. If you look at the entire file it's not too bad considering. Funnily the actual Go JSON

Nope, Windows goes during partitioning, I'm not going to boot into that stuff even once. If I bought the laptop it's because I did my research and I am confident that I will be able to fully manage it from Linux.

I've been using many of the linked sites from the EWW browser in Emacs. I also use RSS for many things but I don't want that model for general news items. For that I prefer to have the snapshot view that the web pages provide.

This is better than nothing but the news item links go to non-text-friendly sites. Many of the other sites mentioned also have the linked news articles in a text-friendly format.
