No, everyone knows racism is obviously bad. What we're back to is having to prove that what the opponent is proposing actually constitutes racism. One argument I hear is that Islam is fundamentally incompatible with the West's val

This works similarly to paradigms in science. Most of the time people don't actually define paradigms; it's implicit in the general experience of being a researcher. People similarly have a commonsense understanding of what hate,

I agree with his stance on this, and I think Trump and his latest executive orders are awful, but I also think that at this point, "hatred," "bigotry," and "racism" should be excised from public discourse. The

I'm impressed by the thought, care, and craftsmanship that went into this, and all the more so because it's such a seemingly mundane tool. A better bugtracker UX. What makes this a secretly interesting or important problem?

Profanity is about emotional honesty. Swearing implies anger. Replacing "that fucker beat up my friend everyday" with "that ill-intentioned person beat up my friend everyday" is emotionally inaccurate.

To provide another view: I rarely had chores (other than generally to keep a basic level of cleanliness) and didn't get an allowance. My parents were divorced, so this kind of "family life" is pretty foreign to me, but I neve

Lots of affluent people still raise kids badly. Being affluent is a necessary but not sufficient condition of what the author describes, and that seems to me the gap the article is trying to span.

Everything you just said was true, but it's interesting that from the article, you thought anyone disagreed, or was implying otherwise.

On engineering teams you don't want constant negotiation. The psychological chess that people play when they negotiate salary doesn't yield a better product. What you want is people collaborating dispassionately to always choose t

That's a very interesting insight, but isn't it also true that Newton decidedly left theology out of calculus and mechanics? What distinguished his three laws was that he chose not to explain, for example, the motion of something

I think you are agreeing with the author, who is trying here to refute the misconception that Newton was simultaneously a brilliant, grounded, impartial truth seeker who discovered physics and a batshit conspiracist who dabbled in alchemy a
