Yup, did the same, ton of new hardware. Last week I was looking at a proposal from a supplier that's got a ~8K "tariff" line on it and thinking... y'know, I can wait on that project.

Yup. Means testing is one of this things that fools people - it sounds good, but in practice is wildly bad at what it’s trying to do, and can be borderline evil. Beyond the bureaucracy dimension - means testing puts up a barrier, not at the

The school has an academic honestly policy which explicitly bans it, under “Cheating”, which includes: “Falsifying or inventing any academic work, including the use of AI (ChatGPT, etc)” Additionally, as mentioned, the school is taking acti

I was expecting some response like this, because schools have “banned” things in the past. While this is superficially similar, I believe we are talking about substantially different things. Learning (the goal) is a process. In the case of

Completely agree. From all of my observations, the impact of LLMs on human thought quality appears largely corrosive. I’m very glad my kid’s school has hardcore banned them. In some class they only allow students to turn in work that was

You can solve your “problem” for a very small price: it costs under $0.50 per day to distill your own drinking water per person. So for $15/mo, “problem” solved. Are you doing that?

Anyone who talks about who was President when a study was done is immediately clarifying for you that they have a political agenda. If there’s a problem with a study, or a study is particularly strong, that should be due to something abou

There is no “should” A big factor of stock performance is the r market’s assessment of risk and its risk tolerance. Both of those can change, and have nothing to do with company performance.

Not saying it’s true, but those behaviors make a lot more sense if you replace “Trump” with “Russian agent”, don’t they?

I found multiple compiler bugs at my first real programming job in 1997. MSVC did not do a good job of maintaining the FPU stack in those days…

I’m not sure what your point is? 25K/yr IS a LOT. Per the US Census, the median income in the US is a bit over 37,500, so it’s literally an entire paycheck. Remember - the NHS is available to everyone, not just the rich. Source: https

Lots of private banks will do this. You live in “consumer finance” land, and understand its rules. In that world, the banks have most of the power. In “private banking” land, especially at the high end, the client can have a lot of power.

Saying “fuck you, I’m rich” is not a good look. A health plan like that costs your company 25K/yr on the backend. They pay that as part of your compensation, you just don’t see it. Even the most basic HDHP Bronze Kaiser plan currently

Interest accrues, it's not paid. Then the debt is rolled over into a new loan for a larger amount. As long as the collateral increases in value faster than the interest rate, this can continue indefinitely.

I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. Unfortunately, the data about mental health outcomes of teens who consume social media is not positive, so I’m not sure things would have been better.

I splurged for an M4 Pro Mini w/ 64GB. 5TB Between internal and external SSDs, then it’s over to a ~30 TB NAS if I need more. All that cost less than a typical PC I’d build in the late 90s. Even as a power user who codes, I can’t imagi

Yeah, when you get into what hearing aides do, there's quite a bit going on. This manual is a useful place to start: https://order.starkeypro.com/pdfs/The_Compression_Handbook.p...

I can understand that position, but in practice I don't think you'd like the quality. One of the big advantages of hearing aides is that they have multiple microphones that have known alignment with your head position. With all 4
