Initially I liked the idea, but the more I think about it the more this feels like it just boils down to: only allow contributions from a list of trusted people.

I often wonder how much of the Harry Potter books were used in the training. How long before some LLM is able to regurgitate full HP books without access to the internet?

How many others are now reluctant to open source their code because they don't want it to end up in the training for an LLM? I certainly am.

Yes, anyone can. But unless Bluesky treats it as a trusted verifier then it doesn’t have much practical use.

Genuinely wondering: how is Moltbook not yet overrun by spam? Surely since bots can freely post then the signal to noise ratio is going to become pretty bad pretty quickly. It’s just a question of someone writing some scripts to spam it int

If it’s for normies then why is the open source hardish-to-use self-hosted version of this the thing that’s becoming popular? Or is there enough normies willing to jump through hoops for this?

I think it’s a lot more interesting to build the opposite of this: a social network for only humans. That is what I’m building at https://onlyhumanhub.com

I'm convinced of the opposite. I think a lot more software will be closed source so that an LLM cannot reproduce it from its training data for free.

AFAIK their issue is that LLMs have been trained on their paid product (Tailwind UI, etc.) and so can reproduce them very easily for free. Which means devs no longer pay for the product. In other words, the open source model of "open c

Yeah, fair, I could have been clearer. But yes, that is what I meant: breaking the license.

Even the MIT license requires attribution, all of that gets lost when training an LLM.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "stolen", I should have been clearer. But indeed, this is the crux of the problem, I have no faith that licenses are being abided by.

Slightly off-topic, but I notice Cosmos Laundromat (2016) is on that page. One of my favourite animated shorts ever. Something so unique about it. It would be nice to get a feature length version of it, but alas.

Why HTML? Why not SVG? I created an svg to png API to generate open graph images a while back. It works pretty well and can be hosted on Cloudflare Workers for free. https://github.com/dom96/svg-renderer

The soundtrack is the best part of this game and I'm surprised this site is just allowing anyone to play this, with the soundtrack as-is.

Genuinely can someone with knowledge of the business explain why they aren't simply doubling down on making Firefox better? Is there an existential problem facing them that they are trying to solve by adding AI into the browser?

I haven't kept up to date with this, but last I heard we still aren't certain how much energy AI training/inference actually takes at the big AI companies (OpenAI/Anthropic). Have any of these companies shared this since
