Kudos, for My first inclination would've been to jack up the car and look at pressure differences of unloaded vs. loaded tyres... then look at loaded wheel center height above ground vs. nominal radius, compute the the reduction in vol

I'd say it is due to incompetence, but not as much the individual engineer's as failures of the organization, though I have seen plenty of people not doing the job they're qualified for. These failures stem from plain mis-man

Seems like quite a few people built PCs because Apple's desktops have been atrophied, that definitely played a part for me, too :) I've designed a water cooled mITX system with PCIe GPU that should've fitted into a 2DIN car r

It's interesting, I started out seriously programming in C++, then took to Smalltalk, Lisp, Io, as exploratory languages, doing more work in ObjC, and eventually Erlang and now Elixir, and I do like the Elixir compromise of some typech

Io has been around for a long time, indeed. I thought it was great, writing an Io interpreter in C was a lot easier than almost anything else, so for learning language internals, it is awesome, and I'd even say a great companion to LIS

Interesting, that's what I'd typically think of as daydreaming, but it definitely doesn't feel like an always-on thing, as I definitely don't verbalize a lot of things internally. Which does pose the occasional problem w

While many items in MISRA are sensible (some I do find quite counterproductive, if code quality in terms of readability and maintainability is also a concern), I have seen MISRA standards being applied to a legacy embedded codebase with ter

Interesting, I work on a '14 MBP and one of the new full size magic keyboards, and while the MBP feels slightly softer, I never noticed any discomfort or annoyance, and didn't know the '15 had a significantly different keyboa

Interesting to note that the T2 chip in the new MBP supposedly contains the HD/Flash controller that used to be a separate IC -- according to the specs page. As it's a pretty fully featured SOC in its own right, that might make it

Balkanization is about right. In my experience developing driver assistance systems, there are enormous efforts spent on political turf wars instead of proper design and engineering. This is not surprising, as the team structures, at least

Back in ca 2001-2005 I used to work my summer nights for a tiny electric scooter rental place that had about 10-20 working scooters at a given time, renting them out to tourists at a lake, and they were fun, especially after learning how to
