Yeah, the MDIL thing sounds like it could have been an LLVM IR derivative. Too bad they always have to NIH things (though I guess in this case there might be legitimate reasons to do something different than the level of LLVM IR).

I've used Google Maps with the new UI for a long time, and it was pretty screwy. It used to be much, much slower than the old UI. These days, performance is a little better, though it's still not quite snappy. Some parts of the ne

Hmm, I didn't think Facebook did actual remote hiring. At least on their Careers site, their jobs seem pretty attached to locations. At least one random Software Engineering job said it required being on location.

I particularly love how you can get Server-Sent Events out of a CouchDB database changes feed. This is such a powerful and extremely easy way of sending real-time updates to a web client.

This reminded me of PyPy, where (I think) you write an interpreter, than add what they call JIT hints to the interpreter to help it do a good job of JITting the interpreted code.

Will you contribute it to upstream, or keep it closed source?

I wonder what the compilers would be like. If these guys contribute, say, an LLVM backend, that would make it so much easier to support.

Why not work with apps/projects that are still active? I was thinking of NewsBlur, whose app is open source, I think.

On the other hand, those people can mostly run their own IdP, so they depend on fewer/more trustable parties (just the DNS registrar, and their colo?), but still get the same user experience. Which I think is an important property: if

I don't really agree Persona is trying to sell a silver bullet. If you review the site here, I don't see anything that says Persona is great for all use cases: https://www.persona.org/developers/

I thought bradfitz's Camlistore talk was interesting (from the Go devroom), so was the Servo talk (Mozilla), as well as the Mailpile alpha announcement.

While I get your point, I don't think it's very productive. The majority of the people who interact with OSM will get a perception of it that's biased by the presentation. Even with the MapQuest Open style, Google Maps, to me

The team has been focused on Persona support in Firefox OS, the Firefox Accounts stuff which relies on some of the same code as Persona, and integration on Firefox desktop. They have by no means stopped working on Persona, but resources on

The protocol itself doesn't come with an SPOF. Only the transitional current implementation, required for bootstrapping purposes, does require the JavaScript shim hosted by Mozilla. In the future, at least Firefox itself (on desktop, A

All the software for running a server is open source, I think, so in that sense it should be possible. Whether there will still be enough prefs such that you can get Firefox to sync against a different host, I'm not sure, but it seems

This isn't really accurate. The problem with Firefox's current/old sync model is recovery. I.e., users think they're getting their stuff (history, passwords, etc) backed up, but when they lose their device, their data is
