It's crazy that so much ink is spilled on curl | bash, but then those same people will happily run the 50MB binary it downloads for you without a second thought. Someone explain this to me, please. Let's consider rust: https:

jjui is the best VCS TUI I've ever used. It's even smoother than magit, but I think most of that is because of jj itself. Spinoff and absorb are both native jj features (jj rebase and jj absorb, respectively) https://gi

If you want this workflow, you can treat jj's `@` (nominally equivalent to git's HEAD) as the git index, then at commit time, manually squash changes to `@-` just like you would with `git add --patch`.

This optical illusion isn't some brand new thing. It's been widely known since I was a child, and surely hundreds of years before that. The laser system results in a stronger perceptual effect than you get from the illusion alone.

Because a car isn't a bike. Do you think people should treat cars and bikes 100% equivalently (including such things as whether you can drive them in the bike lane), or would you agree society should treat the two differently?

Just because you bought a wrongly-sized kickstand for your bike doesn't give you the right to damage people's cars.

Wouldn't this only work if there's only one implementation throughout the entire compliation unit? If you use 2 allocators in your app, your restricted function type has 2 possible callees for each entry, and you're back to t

I'm aware, but Zig isn't a democracy where the core team votes, right? Has Andrew actually expressed that he wants the proposal? Without that we're left with scraps like this commit message where he seems ambivalent. https:&

Does the BDFL want this though, or is it just one person's opinion that it might be nice? Given how he has been aggressively pruning proposals, I don't put any hope in them anymore unless I see some kind of positive signal from hi

I think it's just the Zig philosophy to care more about binary size than speed. Allocators have the same tradeoff, ArrayListUnmanaged is not generic over the allocator, so every allocation uses dynamic dispatch. In practice the overhea

I have definitely gotten the impression that green threads will be the favored implementation, from listening to core team members and hanging around the discord. Stackless coroutines don't even exist in the language currently.

I'm generally a fan of Zig, but it's a little sad seeing them go all in on green threads (aka fibers, aka stackful coroutines). Rust got rid of their Runtime trait (the rough equivalent of Zig's Io) before 1.0 because it perf

That snippet has nothing to do with homomorphic encryption. It's just the same kind of challenge-response AIM and many others were already doing in the 90s. You seem convinced that homomorphic encryption is some kind of magic that prev

You're just describing ordinary challenge-response. That has nothing to do with homomorphic encryption and there are plenty of examples from before homomorphic encryption became viable, for example https://www.geoffchappell.
