Luke got a good amount of adoption early on. Chef actually only started as a response to Puppet about two years ago when Opscode's original company, HJK Solutions decided they didn't want to have to pay for Puppet support. The main advantag

This is also a fairly common way to track people down. I used something similar, with an HTML email, to find an SEO shuyster who had defrauded a friend. It helped prove he was in the country (despite his claims). It gave us a good reason to

Another "Let's all bow down and worship at the cult of Apple" post. Apple's return policies are somewhat abysmal, but that's OK, because in the eyes of many, Apple can do no wrong because "At least they're not Microsoft". The iPhone is the

Figure out what state has the best unemployment rates. Get a fluffy programming job at a large company in that state for about 6 months so that you can max out your benefits. Then get laid off and start collecting. Rhode Island looks like i

I met the FireHost guys at the last couple of HostingCon's, they seemed like a decent enough team. I expect to see a lot of rounds of funding being pumped into already established hosting companies, especially in the dedicated server arena.

Group #1: Social Media Scene people. You'd meet them at any networking event in San Francisco, like tonight's SF Beta Group #2: These are your friends who work at Facebook or Google. Group #3 ???

I've always found that experts-exchange was really scammy. For a while they weren't so bad when you could view their otherwise login-protected data via google's cached content, but eventually they figured out a way around that. This always

As someone who has spent more than half of his life as a sysadmin, I'd suggest only going into it if you're a masochist. It's really a lousy lifestyle. The pay is decent, but even in the best of environments, you're viewed as a cost center,
