Assuming the wife and kids will be paid for this sounds amazing. Otherwise it’s daddy or mommy taking a vacation without the family and that never goes well.

I want the option without anyone being judged. It’s completely fine and nobody will question where you work as long as your productive. People that love the office want others to do so as well.

Agreed. these ships are full of electronic sensors... but the tech installed the AIS transponder what did he use for heading? the ship gyro or one of the dozen gps receivers installed. This was not well defined and sloppy. Nobody asked ques

The issue here is less about the GPS signals and more about the math to compute heading. Its complicated, we did this in the early 2000's for ship pilots (portable heading system) in the US with mixed results. By the way you can get h

It depends on the source of heading for the AIS device. If using GPS heading then yes, you need to be underway to calculate heading. If the AIS is using ship heading then it should always be available. The AIS spec is mature but unfortunat

I think we need one. A lot like the pc industry need macos and windows and Linux. It’s for those who want extreme control more so than a polished ui. I use iOS by the way. Android is the worst of both worlds.

Alright, keep cooking up the ideas in an ivory tower and us lowely well paid devs will just code it up. Because that is how outsourcing works. Really, may as well outsource your in-house devs.

Wow. You probably have high dev turn over rate or extremely complacent ones. Mistake many pms and execs make is assume dev is only worth they’re coding skills. We are humans who also have a non technical creative side. But the assumption is

From my experience PMs serve one true purpose well. That’s reporting to the higher ups (execs building a moat) and being a single point of contact for the devs. Everything else is red tape. Gathering requirements is hard and a PM digesting

Speaking from experience. Talk to your superior about the issue. If they are the issue (my case) or if the issue is not addressed as you see fit then leave the company. This is not an extremity. There are plenty of companies looking for goo

A few reasons: 1) You loose facial expression communication 2) Its slower to digest (small/slow text scrolling across bottom of screen) 3) Its harder to learn to read as the process is aided by phonetics
