The shadow imaging hack to avoid lenses reminds me of the single-pixel camera that produces the image via random sampling http://www.ece.rice.edu/~duarte/images/csCamera-SPMag-web.pd... I love this kind of hack for some reason.

I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't an active voltage-sensing solution. If it works well with all batteries (even cheap ones) then I guess it's a good hack though.
