Even in single producer single consumer scenarios you need locks for multithreaded/interrupt use if you're not properly using atomics and proper fences.

Could you elaborate on the alleged race conditions? Any advice on reliably testing the race conditions? The problem with adding those is the fact that they will give lots of false negatives and if you rely on them you have a problem.

All chips degrade over time, so it doesn't have to be overlocking, after running a CPU for many years it may turn out that it can no longer reliably work at a stock voltage levels. It is very unlikely but it does happen.

Only the first layer of the library is no_std compatible, and the server, which most people are arguably looking for is not no_std compatible, hence std feature is enabled by default.
