I've been trying to figure out whether the mainframe business is being spun off or retained as part of this split. Haven't been able to figure out whether IBM even manufactures this equipment. I know they outsource the chip fab no

Maybe it's better now, but CUPS used to be a nightmare. I still avoid it whenever possible. Eric Raymond did a good job of describing just how bad it was. http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cups-horror.html

Another fun fact I discovered the hard way is that many APC UPSes refuse to go back into bypass when they are supplied by a small generator with a dirty waveform. We had quite a few APC units in the 1990s and 2000s, and I had the impression

What's the problem with copyright? Assuming the rights owner can be found and midi transcriptions made of the piano rolls, why would it be legally any more complicated than publishing sheet music? Of course any public performace would

This is not a coincidence, nor is it an uncanny ability to see into the future. Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the URI/URL naming scheme, worked at CERN, which mostly used Apollos at the time. He modeled URLs after the Apollo naming sch
