Came here to read this. Reminiscent of the early days of Google and it's championing of open standards, right up until their browser became a monopoly. As for CloudFlare, let's not forget their interest in efforts like DNS-over-HT

I was mostly thinking about the sparse structure of upper bits (which are easily enumerable e.g. by downloading a RIPE database dump). As for the lower 64, MAC address OUIs contribute at most around 15 bits, and the distribution is likely s

Crypto isn't nearly a sufficient alternative to the money market, in traditional finance its use is highly regulated, the whole reason for the current situation is that since 2008 banks are extremely limited in holding any kind of risk

I have a webshare.io subscription for stuff like this, it's something extremely negligible like $3/mo. for 100 addresses and some liberal bandwidth cap. Always happy to self-build, but sometimes it just doesn't make any sense

These are very different kinds of bandwidth. The only provider above to offer anycast IP (AFAIK) is AWS Global Accelerator.. it's $.015/gb on top of the regular $.09ish/gb EC2 egress charge. GCE offer anycast load balancing b

Tarballs must be compressed in a very particular way to support random access, and even that only works with on-demand decompression using a slow compressor (zlib). In Fly's model this would probably also need to happen inside the con

It depends on a lot on the compressor. Ancient junk like gzip/deflate only has a 32kb window, more modern compressors like zstd can do 512mb or more. Larger window means potentially much more work during compression, and larger RAM req
