I'm currently on a break from school while I move and get settled with a new job (software developer at a near-Silicon Valley startup). I'm going back this fall to work on my BS in Comp Sci at CSU Fresno.

I highly doubt that anyone will revisit this thread, but I wanted to post a follow up for archiving sake, and in case anyone decides they want to know how everything ended up. So, I felt the interview on the 17th went great. I didn't have m

Wow, excellent advice. Only problem is, I don't know if they'll interview like you or not.

Eh, California isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's crowded, it's expensive, there is insane traffic, and the schools are far below decent. Sunny beaches and summer fun are one thing... Reality, I'm afraid, is much different. And I've live

My day job is as a web developer for a small PC repair shop, and this article pretty much nails it. Many custom builds are requested with XP, and a lot of customers with Vista complain about it and some have us downgrade them to XP. I'm jus

As an Engineering major, I really wish I could go to this school. However, as a startup founder, I really wish I wasn't bogged down with school (Not that I'm saying school is bad, it just takes up much more of my time than I'd like it to).

Hmm... Logical, analytical, and empathetic is pretty much her in a nutshell. I'm more like Kirk, the "passionate, rash and gambler and decision maker." I'm sure she'll understand (and appreciate) your anecdote much more than I ever will. Sh

Though I'm still pretty new to news.YC, I think another appropriate and parallel question is this: Does news.YC want to be Digg? I've seen quite a bit of replication of content across news.YC/Digg/Reddit. Can't we pretty much assume that ne

Doesn't work on my machine (Ubuntu 7.04) Why is this even here, I thought this was NEWS.ycombinator.com? If I wanted stuff like this, I'd be on Digg.

One partner is my best bud from high school, the other is my wife (who I also met in high school). Perhaps someone can answer this for me: Would the wife-as-a-partner thing have a negative impact on our chances at YC?

Unfortunately, no one has ever needed to ask me this question. I grew up poor and started working at a gas station straight out of high school. About a year after that I finally landed a job as a web developer, and I've been able to do that

Being that I'm relatively new to the *nix world (installed Ubuntu for the first time in May '07), I've been extremely glad to see such a great community behind the OS. Ubuntu is taking over the world? Fine by me, I haven't looked back at Wi
