I wasn't considering making it a virtual filesystem. My main goal was something that's editable with any text editor and syncable with SyncThing. I guess denormalization doesn't necessarily mean that these requirements are no

I was thinking about this and came to the conclusion that I'd want to define some events per date, like you illustrated (`"12:30 dentist" > /cal/2024/08/04`), but others I'd like to define per even

What you said only applies to communication that requires authenticating a party. Most cases that doesn't matter. Voice or video communication used to be inherently unfakeable, now that it is fakeable, we'll just treat it like tex

Thanks for the insights, useful. I came to the same conclusion regarding using some CRM platform. I'm a bit surprised I didn't think of that from the get go; might be because I was asked for a completely custom job initially. I&#x

I've had minimally technical users participate in github issue threads, and it can be very valuable when they do.

Others posted great reasons to dislike TikTok. I hear you, but I'll miss it because of how great the recommendations are/were for me. Instagram's recommendation engine is in a lower league in my experience. It's importan

I brainstormed a text game-engine powered by an llm, but relying on a non-local llm was offputting. Local llms are getting more and more viable though. A general problem I was running into was that thinking in terms of LLM queries is a very

Why do you presume that people commonly use it for non-trivial things? It excels at trivial things. That's what most people use it for, probably. Like google search. Is there something that leads you to think otherwise?

What happens to your argument if you consider that Western actors can manipulate you the same as China? Even more so, given that they have more power over you (presuming you're based in the West).

Funnily enough, this is why I prefer Chinese devices and apps as a Westerner living in the West. My threat vector is my local security apparatus coercing my data or my devices. Correspondingly, If I were living in China, I'd consider i

Yeah, I did that, but that shows stats per file, which is minimally useful. I would see it go up to 15 mb/s for bigger files, but turns out the aggregate speed was less than 10 mb/s.

Thanks for the clarification. I presumed that it's the rsync+ssh protocol chatter that was slowing me down, not the wifi bandwidth (which I've not tested separately ). I don't have my head wrapped around the mechanics in play

No, I didn't use compression. Would it be useful over a high-bandwidth connection? I presume that it wasn't wifi bandwidth that was bottlenecking, though I've not really checked. One thing I could have done is found a way to

I have it on my phone too, but its app is just horribly frustrating. I'm back to reading Google News. If you could give me a news feed chstomized for me, with LLM neutered titles and summaries, I might just pay money for that: but that

I recently had to copy around 200gb of files over wifi. I used rsync to make sure a connection failure doesn't mean I have to start over and so that nothing is lost, but it took at least 6 hours. I wonder what could I have done better.
