I expect this will be one of the problems with self driving cars. People will simply walk in front of them crossing the street whenever they want, knowing they won't be hit. And also human drivers will cut off self driving cars all the

It's about pricing. If automated driving gets perfected then a ride with an automated bus can be cheaper than with an automated taxi, because a bus have less cost per seat than a car.

You can have a smart phone and not use it all the time. It's a matter of self control.

I have work email notifications off when I don't work. If they don't pay me to be available anytime then of course I won't check my work email after work. So this is not a reason not to have a smartphone it's only a matt

I don't want to sell anything in the App Store, I just want to display an Apple Mapkit JS Map on my website, but apparently I need a paid developer account for this too, which makes no sense.

AFAIK people who did not set up billing get this transition account so their access is not cut off completely. https://groups.google.com/forum/?#!topic/firebase-talk/jWRCd...

I don't get it why they ask for money from people who want to learn their platform. They should be happy more people want to develop for them and charge for actual API usage instead above the free quota.

Bing maps does not publish pricing info AFAIK. Last time I checked it said contact sales, no price was given.

The thing is Google Maps is not a monopoly. There are plenty of other map providers, so a price increase is not anti competitive, because you can switch to other providers.

Doesn't Apple's map require a developer account which costs money? I haven't used them, but I seem to remember you have to pay to develop using Apple products.

I don't use Mac, but the actual note taking app is not important. The important thing is the global hotkey, so you can make a new note trivially when this global hotkey activates your favorite note taking app. My hotkey software can al

The implementation in the article is less important than the concept of making notes as people in the comments here mentioned Emacs, Google Docs and other tools as well. Also, you can have ideas or want to make notes when reading a PDF or b

That's right. The phone is only a tool and it's only up to you how much you let it intefere with your life. Though, I guess for some the issue is willpower. E.g. if they use Facebook then they can't stop checking it.

For quick notes the most important for me is as little friction as possible. Having to switch to a terminal and using an alias is too much friction. So I have a global hotkey which I can press anywhere on my desktop, regardless of the curre

With OSM you have to host the map tiles yourself if you add maps to your website, because OSM servers only provide limited traffic hosting via the API.

Emacs is still useful for me even if I'm doing coding in some IDE. Magit is one thing, also Org mode for notes and tasks, etc.

You have probably never experienced the efficiency when you can access terminal contents as plain text. E.g. it is searchable with the same commands as your text buffers, very easy to copy large chunks of output from it, etc.
