That's not quite true. US legislating branch gives the Executive branch significant power to "interpret" legislation and Trump admin has taken full advantage of that in order to screw legal immigrants. For reference look at t

I am in the same boat. Planning to move to Canada next year. I have worked in the Valley for 10 years. Had a great time, but unfortunately the wait for GC is over 20 years now and the administration has signaled that we are not welcome (my

The problem with Tenderloin is it is located in the heart of SF. Every city has its squalor. For example, Skid Row in DT LA or south side of Chicago. But tourists wouldn’t stumble upon them

Interviewing is a game of numbers and luck. I know it is slim consolation. But I did 15 onsites, before landing on my dream job. Was rejected from all these onsites, even though I thought I did fairly well in most of them. It was depressing

Of all the things you can blame, diversity of race is not. SV is majority Indians and Asians in engineering roles. Of course it could do better to have more white, black and Hispanic engineers

This is almost sounds eerily like "Blackberry will release a phone that will kill Apple". If it were that easy to just crank out an EV, all manufacturers had a 2 year window to release one and capture the Model 3 backlog. But nobo

Let's admit it. You would never be happy regardless of what Tesla does. Goalposts will always move. Tesla sold only 100 cars in 2011. It is nothing short of a miracle that they are on track to produce and sell >200k cars in 7 years

Disagree. Left leaning companies constantly get hit by legislation from left leaning politicians. See Amazon and BEZOS act for example. Airbnb and city legislations is another example.

Solid advice (runs counter to most HN posts). But young people taking this advice will truly benefit for it. I can personally attest to it, as my income went up 8x just moving from Arizona.

Oh no, not another "Silicon Valley is dying"article. Here's the numbers for VC investment in 2018, if anyone is interested. [1] California companies raised $12B and $12.7B in Q2 and Q1 of this year. Almost 90% of this is in t

Not really surprised. I pay for a lot of freemium apps, but never paid for Evernote. It's hard to create value for "Note Taking". Alternative is capturing notes in a free google doc or use paper and pen.

VP = head of a function or business unit. Director = head of a very large team. For Tesla, engineering head would be a VP, but head of Autopilot will most likely be a director. Doesn't always hold up though.
