Yea, totally agree that memory is at the heart of the problem. Not only in needing a unified view, but also in bandwidth constraints that seem to be the bottleneck in so much code (von neumann bottleneck). I think a real solution would not

It's usually the latency requirements that rule-out distributed systems. The amount of total data isn't particularly crazy, it's just that it comes in very concentrated bursts.

In theory it should be possible, but doing so in the general case is a ridiculously hard problem as sliverstorm hints upon. If I was back at school, this is something I would definitely spend time on. Some possible ideas: - Writing differen

Is there any breakthrough in programming these things? From a quick glance at the paper it seem like the kernels are still hand written in Verilog. Though there seem to be some significant software infrastructure in integrating the FPGAs in

But couldn't you apply the same argument to many things which cause an initial slowdown (and possibly janking), such as static assets (which won't be cached and may need DNS resolved) and JS which will be interpreted until it is j

This would be caught be live profiling. The same way a JS engine can figure out that a particular function is only called with ints, and then create a specialised version. Admittedly this would run slow the first few times, until the render

Basically it is that argument, though in this case it doesn't seem to be too technically difficult especially compared to some of the black magic already done by modern JS engines. And anyway even if it was technically hard, the major

Should'nt this be something that the browser should auto-optimise with a smart renderer? In the example given with the element:hover and element:active, it would trivial to parse all possible CSS transforms. Then live profiling of the

Looks very sensible. We tend to not have a long running dev branch, and just cut features branches off master, similar to the 'how github uses github to build github' presentation [1]. Is anyone making squashing part of their work
