The title of this thread changed, didn’t it? Pretty sure it was the same as the article (“Everyone is beautiful and no one is horny”). I mean, insomnia had me reading it at 3am so I may be wrong but if so that’s a hilarious commentary on th

Yeh, I’ve had a play with it in the past. It seems reasonable. But it comes with its own set of complexities and nuances and ultimately I just ended up back at Wordpress, which is where I’d started.

It’s interesting to me how much interest SSG’s get and how much bad press WordPress gets. I don’t agree with everything that Mullenweg says but recently he was in an interview where he was saying (along the lines of..): “devs say they need

I'm in a vortex of downvotes, would expect this to go the same. Ho hum. Thanks, I guess. Whoops, more noise.

Yeh, that was kind of in my mind. We spent a couple of years living in the middle of nowhere in a corrugated iron shack - it had electricity, borehole water, etc - but REALLY slow internet. It was wonderful.

Nice piece, was talking to a friend about this yesterday, particularly regarding online community. Our conjecture ended up being that communities don’t scale, which is why Twitter fails, and Facebook too with the exception of groups, which

Interesting threads here got me thinking about the fact that “off grid” is clearly not synonymous with “not being on the internet”. There’s like “the grid” and then “The Grid”. I wonder how many people would argue that being truly off grid

Argh. My dream is that one day people will understand that a really large chunk (probably the vast majority) of piss-ripping found in humour isn't actually racist or misogynistic but is actually the complete opposite in making a state

I like it. I like it a lot. I’ve had a sort of similar notion around RSS feeds in my head for a long time, and this does some of what’s in my brain, namely a different way of surfacing and commenting on relevant content. Will keep playing!

Came here to say this. I think it's more than cultural, it's a US obsession to helicopter parent. We're in the uk and kids are widely allowed to roam, and good on the parents and kids for giving them autonomy. We live by the

I think I’d turn it around and instead say: “does everything have to be incentivised”? I mean, I’m all for being encouraged, but there’s a fine line between incentives and feeling pressured. A big bit of me thinks: if you genuinely want to

If you want a great recommendation engine for books, check out https://abooklikefoo.com/ Also, but for music and tv as well as books, https://tastedive.com/ has always suggested some interesting stuff.

Can someone explain to me (like I’m 5) whether I should consider a dns service over and above a pihole, which I’m running already? Is there any benefit to setting the dns on the pihole to use this service, or nextdns or similar?

Agree. There’s a sort of woo popularity thing with a large tranche of mindfulness which is a bit too goal oriented and westernised for my tastes. I mean, each to their own but for me it’s a bit like abridged classic novels or pseudo classic
